Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Job Summary:


The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for performing nuclear medicine procedures including PET scans in an acute care hospital setting. The role involves preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals, operating imaging equipment, and ensuring patient safety and comfort. The technologist will collaborate with the healthcare team to provide high-quality diagnostic imaging services. A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required, with preference for prior PET scan experience. Training on PET scans will be provided as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Perform nuclear medicine imaging procedures, including PET scans, following established protocols.
• Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals safely and accurately.
• Operate and maintain nuclear medicine imaging equipment.
• Ensure patient safety, comfort, and proper identification during procedures.
• Collaborate with physicians and healthcare team to obtain quality diagnostic images.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation using Epic charting system.
• Adhere to radiation safety and infection control standards.
• Participate in orientation and training as required.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Minimum 2 years of nuclear medicine technologist experience.
• Current BLS certification.
• Certification by NMTCB or ARRT in Nuclear Medicine.
• Valid California state Nuclear Medicine Technologist license.
• Ability to perform PET scans or willingness to train on site.
• Strong communication and patient care skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Prior experience performing PET scans.
• Experience working in an acute care hospital environment.

Special Considerations:

• Orientation shifts are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, likely for the first two weeks.
• Opportunity to take call shifts is available but not required.
• Call shifts, if accepted, cover Monday to Friday 4:30 AM to 10:00 PM and weekends 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM with a 60-minute response time.
• No weekend or holiday work required for regular shifts.
• Radius for travel is limited to 50 miles; first-time travelers not accepted unless screened with 2 years experience.
• Requests for schedule changes due to outside employment will not be considered.

Scheduling:

• Standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts.
• No weekend or holiday shifts are scheduled.
• Orientation and training shifts are daytime hours, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
• Call shifts are optional and scheduled separately.
