Maintenance Technician / General Laborer

This role involves traveling to properties throughout the Rhode Island area to perform general building maintenance and light construction tasks. You will support the upkeep, repair, and improvement of commercial and residential facilities, ensuring they remain safe, clean, and well-maintained.

Responsibilities

• Drive to multiple properties in the Rhode Island area to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks.
• Carry out general building maintenance, including minor repairs and upkeep of interior and exterior areas.
• Perform janitorial duties such as cleaning common areas, removing trash, and maintaining a neat and orderly environment.
• Patch and repair roofs to address leaks and damage as needed.
• Install, repair, and finish sheet rock (drywall), including taping, mudding, and sanding surfaces.
• Cut and remove concrete as required for repairs, installations, or structural modifications.
• Install new flooring materials as directed, ensuring proper measurements, fit, and finish.
• Perform finish carpentry and rough carpentry tasks, including framing, trim work, and basic construction activities.
• Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for various maintenance and construction tasks.
• Measure materials accurately using a tape measure and other basic measuring tools.
• Assist with metal stud installation and other commercial carpentry work as needed.
• Identify basic mechanical and building issues and perform troubleshooting to determine appropriate repairs.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area at all job sites, including proper disposal of debris and materials.
• Follow safety procedures and company guidelines while working in construction and maintenance environments.

Essential Skills

• Experience performing general building maintenance and repair work.
• Proficiency in janitorial duties, including cleaning and basic facility upkeep.
• Ability to patch roofs and perform basic roof repairs.
• Hands-on experience with sheet rock (drywall) installation and repair, including finishing.
• Capability to cut concrete safely and accurately.
• Experience installing new flooring materials.
• Skill in both rough carpentry and finish carpentry tasks.
• Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
• Competence in reading and using a tape measure for accurate measurements.
• Familiarity with metal stud installation and commercial carpentry work.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills for building systems.
• Capability to perform physical general labor, including lifting, carrying, and working on your feet for extended periods.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel between properties in the Rhode Island area.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in a construction, maintenance, or building services role.
• Comfort working with concrete, flooring, and other building materials.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to completing work to a high standard.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage daily tasks across multiple properties.
• Strong time management skills to support a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week.

Work Environment

This role is based in a construction and maintenance environment, working primarily on-site at various properties in the Rhode Island area. You will work a full-time schedule of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, totaling 40 hours per week. The work involves both indoor and outdoor tasks and may require exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, noise, and typical construction materials. You will regularly use hand tools, power tools, tape measures, and other standard construction and maintenance equipment. The position involves physical labor, including lifting, bending, standing, and working on ladders or elevated surfaces as needed. Appropriate work attire suitable for construction and maintenance activities is required to ensure safety and professionalism on job sites.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of East Providence, RI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
