The Calibration Technician B applies expertise in measurement science, mathematics, physics, and electronics to calibrate inspection, measurement, and test equipment across multiple disciplines, including acoustical, chemical, dimensional, DC/low frequency, RF/microwave, fluid, mechanical, optical, thermodynamics, and time & frequency. This role ensures measurement accuracy by selecting and using appropriate manual and automated calibration procedures, maintaining calibration standards, and resolving out-of-tolerance conditions. The technician works with minimal supervision on moderately complex tasks, contributes to laboratory operations and documentation, and may provide technical opinions and interpretations to internal teams and customers.
Responsibilities- Calibrate inspection, measurement, and test equipment (IM&TE) across multiple disciplines such as pressure, temperature, torque, RF, and other measurement parameters.
- Maintain primary, intrinsic, and secondary working calibration standards to ensure traceable and reliable measurements.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair precision equipment used in calibration and testing activities.
- Develop calibration procedures based on technical specifications, manufacturer documentation, and industry standards.
- Collect and record calibration data accurately and completely, ensuring proper documentation and traceability.
- Identify, correct, and document out-of-tolerance conditions and measurement errors in accordance with established procedures.
- Prepare clear and accurate calibration reports and certificates for internal and external customers.
- Adapt existing equipment and techniques to support unique or non-standard measurement tasks.
- Perform uncertainty evaluations and analysis to quantify and document measurement confidence levels.
- Train junior technicians in calibration methods, procedures, and best practices.
- Collaborate with internal teams and customers to understand requirements, resolve technical issues, and support calibration-related inquiries.
- Perform laboratory housekeeping and general administrative duties to support efficient lab operations.
- Provide technical opinions and interpretations related to calibration results when requested.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall calibration function.
- Proficiency in general mathematics, algebra, and basic statistics for analyzing measurement data and calibration results.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to document calibration activities and interact with internal teams and customers.
- Technical writing ability to develop and update calibration procedures, reports, and certificates.
- At least 4 years of calibration experience working with inspection, measurement, and test equipment.
- Hands-on experience with calibration of pressure, temperature, and torque measurement equipment.
- Experience with RF systems and RF testing, including the use of spectrum analyzers and signal generators.
- Proficiency in using spectrum analyzers for RF and microwave measurement applications.
- Proficiency in using signal generators for calibration and testing of electronic and RF equipment.
- Experience with commercial calibration environments, including laboratory-based test equipment and processes.
- Background in electronics sufficient to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair precision test and measurement equipment.
- Experience working with test equipment in laboratory settings, particularly in support of aerospace, defense, or similar industries.
- Experience with acoustical, chemical, dimensional, DC/low frequency, fluid, mechanical, optical, thermodynamics, and time & frequency measurements is highly beneficial.
- Familiarity with calibration requirements and tooling support for aerospace and defense customers.
- Exposure to military or defense-related electronics, RF systems, or test environments.
- Ability to adapt equipment and techniques to support unique or complex measurement tasks.
- Experience mentoring or training junior technicians in calibration processes.
- Comfort working with both manual and automated calibration procedures and systems.
The role is based within a small calibration team of approximately 12 technicians at a laboratory located in Redmond, WA. The technician primarily works in a lab environment with specialized test and measurement equipment, including spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and various pressure, temperature, torque, and RF calibration tools. During and after the contract period, the technician may have opportunities to work directly at client sites, with an approximate split of 75% of time spent in the Redmond calibration lab and 25% at customer locations. The position supports a range of aerospace and defense customers and their tooling and calibration needs, offering exposure to advanced technologies and high-reliability equipment. The work setting emphasizes precision, documentation, and collaboration, with a professional, technical atmosphere and a focus on quality and measurement accuracy.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $42.00/hr.
