This is a contract job opportunity with potential for perm. Location: Germantown MD. Schedule: 7am-7pm M-F. Candidate will need to be available to start as early as 7AM and end as late as 7PM depending on the location they are to cover.

Summary

The primary role of a phlebotomist is to aid in carrying out various assigned tasks, problem solving, training, and suggesting work flow improvements.

Position Responsibilities

Experience performing blood extractions, marking specimens, spinning specimens, recording maintenance information and decontamination, updating patient details, etc. Gathers and stores samples following established protocols. Clearly and courteously explains the venipuncture (blood extraction) process and/or other specimen collection processes (e.g. urine or fecal) as needed. Demonstrates techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully comprehends all physicians’ instructions. Matches lab forms to specimen tubes. Labels, spins, splits, and freezes specimens as per test order. Verifies all test requisitions or computer labels against script for accuracy. Prepares specimens for transport. Stores samples at required temperatures, places samples in appropriate containers/tubes, labels accurately, and follows specific protocols for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Understands and adheres to OSHA and DEP regulations. Attends annual departmental trainings. Answers phone calls, reads lab results to address inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications: Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required in certain states. Minimum of 6 months’ experience conducting venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED. Minimum 2 – 4 years of experience.
