About the Employer

The Goleta Union School District (GUSD) serves approximately 3,384 students in preschool through sixth grade across nine elementary schools. All schools offer transitional kindergarten and strong support services, including special education and mental health, in addition to after-school care at all nine schools supporting approximately 1,500 students. GUSD offers embedded programs to address specific needs of gifted students and English Learners across the district. Each school maintains a 1.0-1.5 full time positions to support intervention needs for all students.

Job Summary

School Social Workers are trained mental health professionals with a degree in social work who provide services related to a person's social, emotional and life adjustment to school and/or society. School Social Workers are the link between the home, school and community in providing direct as well as indirect services to students, families and school personnel to promote and support students' academic and social success.
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, Pupil Services, serve as a School Social Worker / Community Liaison between parents, students and the community; provide mental health services within the District's Therapeutic Program, provide information regarding school or District programs, procedures, activities, rules and regulations; provide translations or interpretation services for limited and non-English speaking parents.
