Under general supervision, produces machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies to manufacture metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the following duties.
Essential Job Functions
- Basic interpretation of blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Measures, marks, and scribes' dimensions and reference points on materials or work piece as guides for subsequent machining as necessary.
- Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines as necessary to machine parts as required.
- Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls as required.
- Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
- Accomplishes organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Verifies conformance of finished work piece to drawing specifications.
- Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
- Meets production goals in terms of cycle time, quantity, and quality.
- Adheres to all factory safety procedures and guidelines.
- Makes sure that workstation is clean, organized and free of hazardous materials.
- Continue to grow lean knowledge and use the tools to identify and assist with continuous improvement.
- Contributes to team effort in a collaborative and supportive manner.

Education and Experience
Level - Title - Min Exp.(typical) - Description
I - Machinist I - 3-4 years - Entry Level: Vocational, High School diploma, or general education degree (GED); 3-years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Considered a developing professional within the field.
II - Machinist II - 5-6 years - Vocational, High School diploma, or general education degree (GED); or 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; trade school certificate preferred. Considered a seasoned professional that needs little direction or guidance.
III - Machinist III - 7+ years - Educational Requirements per Level II or high school diploma with a minimum of (7+) years of experience in related field. Considered an industry expert within the field with little to no guidance needed.
Language Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Conversational in any other language is a plus.
Job Skills
- Conceptual skills, process improvement, verbal communication, functional and technical skills, controls and instrumentation, supply management, tooling, inventory control, attention to detail, judgment.
- Writing skills required to complete documents and forms
- Reliable and flexible to work additional hours on short notice to complete orders and/or special projects to meet customer demands.
- Able to use calipers, torque wrenches, jigs, fixtures, and other tools.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings and schematics
- Ability to measure accurately using a ruler or tape measure
- Understanding and experience in Lean manufacturing environment preferred. Participate in 5S related performance teams.

Physical Demands
As part of their job duties, the employee must be able to sit, stand, and walk throughout the day while frequently using their hands to handle objects and communicate verbally. Additionally, they may need to reach, stretch, push, pull, crouch, stoop, and occasionally lift objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds. This role requires specific vision abilities, including close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
