EHS Manager, Biosafety

About This Role Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) support for Biogen’s Cambridge operations, encompassing R&D laboratory activities. As the Biosafety Officer, you will manage EHS programs with an emphasis on Biosafety, Occupational Health, and general laboratory safety. You will collaborate with the Cambridge EHS team, peers, client groups, and Corporate EHS to implement programs under the Global EHS Policy and Management System. What You’ll Do Lead the Biosafety Program, including facilitating the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and conducting Biosafety Risk Assessments. Partner with outsourced Occupational Health vendors to ensure delivery of medical surveillance, injury management, wellness support, vaccination clinics, and emergency response. Provide expertise on EHS policies and programs such as Biosafety, IACUC, Occupational Health, Vivarium Safety, Controlled Substances, Animal Allergies, and Respiratory Protection. Drive EHS Program initiatives, maintain awareness of regulations, and manage compliance activities. Develop relationships with internal and external clients, champion projects and initiatives, and coordinate cross‑functional partnerships. Create, implement, and improve written EHS programs and develop training materials for classroom and on‑the‑job instruction. Lead incident investigations, determine root causes, and identify corrective and preventative actions. Conduct inspections, document findings, collaborate with area owners to implement corrective actions, and communicate results. Participate in stakeholder engagement, provide hands‑on support for laboratory design and construction projects, and lead risk assessment evaluations. Assist with emergency response activities, including on‑call duties, and coach and mentor junior staff and external providers. Deliver speaking opportunities with external stakeholders. Required Skills 8+ years of EHS or equivalent experience (inclusive of military experience). B.S. in life sciences, environmental field, or related discipline. Experience implementing EHS programs, including Biosafety. Preferred Skills Advanced interpersonal skills focused on collaboration, innovation, and inclusion. Experienced presenter and speaker; excellent writing skills. Prior EHS experience in the biopharma field. Experience interacting with external regulatory agencies. Understanding of EHS management systems. Professional certification (Certified Safety Professional, Certified Biosafety Professional). Active membership in relevant professional associations. Job Level Management Compensation Base salary range: $113,000.00–$151,000.00, with short‑term and long‑term incentives, equity options, and a comprehensive benefits package.
