Recreation Supervisor (9/80 Work Schedule) Position The Sports, Facilities, and Senior Programs Supervisor plans, organizes, and oversees the daily operations of recreation programs, athletic leagues, sports fields, community facilities, and senior services. This position is responsible for developing high-quality recreational opportunities, coordinating facility rentals, supervising staff and volunteers, managing program budgets, and ensuring safe, efficient, and welcoming operations for participants of all ages. The supervisor works collaboratively with community organizations, schools, sports groups, and other City departments to expand recreational opportunities and enhance community engagement. The position also oversees customer service, program evaluation, facility scheduling, contract administration, and compliance with City policies and safety standards while promoting exceptional service and a positive experience for residents and visitors. About Lathrop Incorporated in 1989, the City of Lathrop is located in the Northern San Joaquin Valley and sits east and west of the San Joaquin River. Interstate 5, Interstate 205, and State Route 120 intersect within the city. We are located approximately 70 miles east of San Francisco and 70 miles south of Sacramento. Monterey, Santa Cruz, Napa Valley, and the Sierra Nevada Mountains are all located within 2 hours of Lathrop. Lathrop is centrally located within a 30‑minute commute of Tracy, Manteca, Stockton, Ripon, Lodi, Modesto, and Livermore. The Department’s January 1, 2026, population estimates show Lathrop grew from 38,791 residents in 2025 to 40,942 residents in 2026, an increase of 2,151 people, or 5.5%. The report ranks Lathrop as the second fastest‑growing city in California with a population over 30,000, behind only Mountain House. Lathrop also ranked fifth among California cities under 300,000 residents for the largest numeric population increase. With the continued growth in the residential communities, our population is anticipated to reach approximately 70,000. Supervision Received/Exercised Receives direction from the Director of Parks and Recreation. Exercises direct and indirect supervision over assigned staff. Essential Functions Plans, coordinates, develops and participates in the work of staff responsible for various recreation programs and activities, including sports programs, teen programs, before and after school childcare programs, day camp and enrichment classes. Assigns work to staff; monitors work activities to ensure safe work practices, work quality and accuracy; ensures compliance with applicable rules, policies and procedures; participates in the selection and training of staff, coaches and volunteers; assumes responsibility for motivating and training assigned staff and volunteers; provides necessary training; initiates discipline procedures as is appropriate. Develops schedules and methods for performing assigned duties; maintains appropriate work records and documents which may include timesheets for staff, ratio of staff to participants and participant hours. Submits recommendations for program budgets; monitors Division budget; purchases program and activity supplies. Plans, reschedules, and evaluates all programs and activities in assigned areas; finds instructors for the various courses offered; develops and distributes all publicity for these classes and other assigned recreation programs, including press releases and flyers. Administers, organizes and plans program content for a variety of programs; organizes and participates in special events. Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies and associations, City management and staff, and the public. Salary: $92,114 to $111,966 Annually. Education and/or Experience A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of three years of increasingly responsible experience in providing recreation programs, and a bachelor's degree in recreation management, business or public administration or a related field. License/Certificates Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid class C California driver's license and CPR certification. Physical Working Conditions Position requires sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when reading correspondence, statistical data and using a computer. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper and documents weighing up to 25 pounds is also required.
