Catholic Charities is seeking a Family Life Coach to walk alongside families as they navigate challenges and work toward stability, growth, and connection. This highly relational role centers on building trust with families through regular, personalized outreach—including home visits—and helping to identify and achieve goals rooted in strengths. Position Summary The Family Life Coach serves as an advocate and connector, helping families access resources, build protective factors, and strengthen their support systems. This role provides strength‑based case management and support services to families experiencing instability, with a focus on promoting child safety, family well‑being, and long‑term stability. Managing a caseload of 15–18 families, the Life Coach engages families through home visits and community‑based meetings, developing individualized service plans guided by family voice and a 2Generation approach. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to trauma‑informed and culturally responsive practices, and a willingness to grow through ongoing training and professional development. All training is provided during work hours, with opportunities for self‑paced learning, continuous feedback, and team collaboration. Key tasks and responsibilities to be performed in the role. Reach out to referred families to engage them in program enrollment, offering case management and program services through a variety of outreach strategies (e.g., phone calls, texts, in‑person visits) to engage families. Engage and interview families for program enrollment and complete needs assessments using grant‑designated tools. Provide strength‑based case management services and collaborate with families to set goals using a family‑led approach. Conduct regular follow‑up to assess goal attainment and referrals needs. Manage a caseload of 15‑18 families. Schedule appointments at times and locations convenient for families, creating a warm and welcoming environment. Conduct visits weekly, semi‑monthly, or monthly, based on family needs. Build rapport, assess needs, set family‑centered and strengths‑based service plans, provide direct services, and connect families with resources to address their concerns and priorities. Develop effective case plans with families regarding parenting skills, family issues, economic stressors, parent/child relationships, and community connections. Track measurable progress toward goals, acknowledge family strengths, resilience, and resources. Work toward keeping children safe in their homes and stable in school settings. Promote protective factors with families to ensure child safety. Actively communicate with and seek support from supervisor, including information on referrals received, home visits completed, and allocation of funds. Document agreed‑upon next steps and assign responsibility for each task. Follow up with families to assess progress and success with referrals. Advocate on behalf of families with external agencies, such as welfare offices, public benefit agencies, landlords, and schools, based on individual and family needs. Support family members in advocating for themselves. Engage multiple family members in program activities when appropriate and facilitate opportunities for families to build social connections and healthy relationships. Respond to financial requests (rent, gift cards, etc.) appropriately, following established request and approval processes. Maintain up‑to‑date Release of Information (ROI) documentation annually, ensuring compliance with privacy standards. Consistently and accurately enter data into designated database systems within five (5) days of service. Maintain organized and complete client files including hardcopy and internal tracking logs. Seek feedback from families and team members for program improvement. Participate in ongoing training and adhere to Quality Standards for Family Strengthening & Support and Trauma‑Informed Care practices. Participate regularly in case conferencing with the Family Connections Life Coaching team. Attend Community of Practice meetings, sessions with grant providers (e.g., CDEC and FRCA), and other relevant professional development opportunities. Participate regularly in appropriate community meetings. Travel regularly between sites – Catholic Charities, home visits, and participating partner organizations and schools. Skills, behaviors, and abilities necessary to succeed in the role, but not required for eligibility. Success in this role is built on a culture of continuous learning and early, ongoing feedback. A strong foundation in key competencies is important, along with the willingness to grow through experience. Training is provided during work hours — many of them are self‑paced — and requires motivation, time management, and the ability to reflect on and apply new knowledge and skills to support positive outcomes for families. Ability to engage, foster, and maintain effective working relationships with a broad variety of families. Knowledge of child development (Protective Factors) and 2Gen (from supervisors) strength‑based family support practices (FHI training), and ability to apply these practices when working with families and co‑workers. Knowledge and application of Trauma Informed Care and Motivational Interviewing principles and practices. Proficiency in problem solving, planning, mediation, and conflict resolution. Demonstration of empathy and compassion, using calm, quiet, and natural tones in interactions. Demonstration of patience, understanding, and professional courtesy in team interactions, with contributions to daily team operations including welcoming guests, maintaining shared spaces, and supporting walk‑in clients. Ability to use a Family Development approach to strengthen families and build support systems. Knowledge of family dynamics, systems theory, domestic violence, and social work theory/practice. Understanding of social issues such as poverty, gender bias, substance abuse, child maltreatment prevention, and cultural diversity. Knowledge of community resources and systems. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field preferred, with at least one year of full‑time experience in direct client/family interaction. Alternatively, an Associate’s degree in these fields with 2+ years of full‑time experience in direct client/family interaction is acceptable. Experience must include foundational case management skills, including the ability to define, collaborate, and facilitate the attainment of client goals. Knowledge & Skills Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on listening, problem solving, and maintaining positive working relationships. Strong interpersonal and human relations skills with the ability to form and maintain positive relationships with diverse families and colleagues. Ability to apply culturally appropriate skills in interactions with clients, co‑workers, volunteers, partner agencies, and the community. Ability to complete required on‑the‑job training in English within established time limits, including passing training assessments and earning necessary certifications (with accommodations, if applicable). Basic math and analytical skills to perform calculations (e.g., budgeting, income vs. expenses, monthly vs. annually) and interpret results to support case management. Training will be provided to help you assist families with budgeting during assessments. Ability to follow directions and interpret policies and procedures to ensure compliance. Exceptional attention to detail, particularly in data entry, documentation, and record‑keeping. Computer proficiency, including word processing and detailed data entry. Ability to learn and utilize various databases. Knowledge of Human Services agencies in the area. Bilingual in English/Spanish is strongly preferred. Other Requirements Ability and willingness to work within the established structure and guidelines of Catholic Charities. High level of self‑motivation, enthusiasm, and team‑oriented work ethic, with the ability to prioritize projects and manage multiple responsibilities effectively. Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record; reliable transportation required for local travel between schools, home visits, and Catholic Charities offices. Ability to work on occasional evenings and weekends to accommodate family schedules, meetings, and special events. Must successfully complete background clearance. Schedule 40 hours / week, Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., On Site Compensation The salary for this position is $20.10 per hour. Salary is determined based on the applicant’s incoming skills and experience, and the budget at time of hiring. Position Classification & Schedule Nonexempt Full Time: 40 hours per week Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, On‑Site Occasional evenings and weekends are required to accommodate meetings, and special events.
