Rigging Opportunities: Tech I, Tech II, Tech III

Job Summary Provides the highly skilled, discipline specific technical skills needed for the successful operation and maintenance of the Rigging and Staging elements for assigned Entertainment venues, projects, events, and productions, to ensure highest levels of show quality and a positive guest experience. Tech I – Rigging Responsible for the appropriate implementation of all policies and procedures, including high-risk, for assigned area and team as defined by ANSI, ESTA, and Universal Orlando, governing the safe operation of all technical equipment. Major Responsibilities Ensures installation, operation, or strike of rigging equipment or systems per management’s direction. Assesses hazards associated with rigging and staging equipment or systems. Determines mitigations, implements them, and completes all required documentation. Accomplishes tasks directed by the Lead Tech and rigging/staging management with minimal oversight while working at height. Facilitates and troubleshoots projects with accountability for completion. Operates large vehicles and heavy equipment. Lifts and places irregular objects and maneuvers heavy equipment in all directions in tight spaces. Acts as a spotter and provides correct hand signals for crane and hoist operation to ensure safety. Manages inventory, maintenance, and inspection of assigned technical equipment. Researches and recommends alternative and new equipment to maximize operational reliability and efficiency. Communicates essential technical information to the Lead Tech, upper management, and other team members. Performs miscellaneous administrative duties and collects other information as directed by management. Participates actively in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities following established UO policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities. Performs other duties as assigned. Education Technical school, College or University technical theater program is preferred. Experience Required: 5+ years’ experience within the assigned technical discipline. Preferred: Prior experience within the professional theme park, theater, corporate event and/or film/TV industries in a technical capacity (rigging and staging), or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations Valid Florida Driver’s License – required to operate company vehicles. UO provided annual training required for heavy equipment operation. UO provided Rope Access class. Preferred: ETCP certification, PETZL rigging inspection class, CM motor certification, Truss Inspection certification. Ability to obtain and maintain a CDL (if required). Tech II – Rigging Responsible for the appropriate implementation of all policies and procedures, including high-risk, for assigned area and team as defined by ANSI, ESTA, and Universal Orlando, governing the safe operation of all technical equipment. Major Responsibilities Functions as the up rigger for installations and strikes within the assigned venue, project, event or production. Assists with operation of rigging and staging equipment. Assesses hazards and elevates identified hazards for mitigation. Responsible for proper installation, setup, storage, strike, and transportation of Rigging and Staging equipment. Operates large vehicles and heavy equipment, lifts and places irregular objects and maneuvers equipment in challenging spaces. Acts as a spotter and provides correct hand signals for vehicles, heavy equipment, and hoist operation. Assists Tech I with inventory, maintenance, and inspection of rigging and staging equipment. Submits proper paperwork for daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly inspections. Communicates pertinent information, both written and verbal, regarding the technical operation of the assigned venue or event to other disciplines, entertainment tech management, and team members. Participates actively in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities following established UO policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities. Performs other duties as assigned. Education Technical school is preferred. Experience Required: 2–5 years’ experience within the assigned technical discipline. Preferred: Prior experience within the professional theme park/theater industry in a technical capacity (rigging and staging) or equivalent education and experience. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations Valid Florida Driver’s License – required to operate company vehicles. UO provided annual training required for heavy equipment operation. Tech III – Rigging Responsible for following all policies and procedures, including high-risk, for assigned area and team as defined by ANSI, ESTA, and Universal Orlando, governing the safe operation of all technical equipment. Major Responsibilities Acts as a ground rigger assisting with installation/strike of rigging and staging equipment. Assists with preparation, loading, unloading, and transportation of rigging and staging gear and materials. Assists in operation of rigging and staging equipment within the assigned venue, project, or event. Maintains rigging and staging equipment under the supervision of the Lead Tech. Operates large vehicles and heavy equipment. Acts as a spotter and provides correct hand signals for vehicles to protect UO assets. Assists in inspecting department’s equipment inventory. Participates actively in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities following established UO policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities. Performs other duties as assigned. Education Technical school is preferred. Experience Required: 0–2 years’ experience within the assigned technical discipline. Preferred: Prior experience within the professional theme park/theater industry in a technical capacity (rigging and staging) or equivalent education and experience. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations Valid Florida Driver’s License – required to operate company vehicles. UO (Universal Orlando) provided annual training required for heavy equipment operation.
