The Occupational Health Nurse provides and delivers health care services to employees within an occupational setting, helping employees who experience illness or injury achieve optimal health, productivity and a safe return to work.
In this role, you will serve as a clinical case manager, coordinating health care services across multiple systems from the onset of an injury or illness through a safe return to work or an optimal alternative. You will use your knowledge of employees, their social and family systems, and the work environment to assess, plan, implement, coordinate, monitor and evaluate care, with a focus on quality and cost-effective outcomes.
You will practice within the parameters of professional licensure and applicable legal, labor, regulatory and corporate requirements while partnering across the organization to advance employee health, safety and well-being.
This is an on-site position based in Johns Creek, Georgia, requiring employees to work from the local Boston Scientific site. Boston Scientific will not offer sponsorship or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position at this time. Relocation assistance is not available for this position at this time.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with management and Environmental, Health and Safety colleagues to support organizational health and safety objectives.
- Serving as a professional health resource for management in planning and maintaining occupational health initiatives and programs aligned with defined goals and objectives.
- Providing initial assessments of occupational injuries, illnesses and exposures, and treating or referring employees for further evaluation as appropriate and in accordance with clinical guidelines and protocols.
- Assessing employee needs, including physical and psychosocial factors, using information from health records, case and claims experience, employer representatives, health care providers and third-party representatives.
- Assessing nonoccupational sudden illnesses occurring at work, determining the immediacy of treatment and providing guidance on seeking care from emergency or personal health care providers.
- Developing nursing care plans based on identified needs and supporting primary, secondary and tertiary prevention and health promotion strategies to optimize health and prevent injuries and illnesses.
- Developing processes to identify situations requiring early intervention to help achieve optimal outcomes.
- Establishing client goals, objectives and actions through comprehensive case management plans and implementing interventions to achieve desired outcomes within designated time frames.
- Coordinating the nursing process to support consistent documentation of treatment, interactions and administrative activities.
- Establishing appropriate communication plans involving internal and external stakeholders.
- Identifying qualifications and expectations for health care providers and vendors and monitoring the outcomes and quality of services provided through the treatment and rehabilitation network.
- Collaborating with treatment and rehabilitation providers and third-party representatives to coordinate appropriate care, treatment and follow-up for work-related health events.
- Assisting supervisors and employees with return-to-work matters, including work restrictions, modified schedules and job accommodations.
- Providing health-related counseling to supervisors and employees within the scope of nursing knowledge, licensure and practice.
- Conducting workplace walkthroughs and assessments and supporting appropriate follow-up related to workplace exposures.
- Maintaining and safeguarding the privacy and confidentiality of business information and protected health information.
- Participating in the development of occupational health-related policies, procedures and work instructions.
- Identifying research opportunities and participating in relevant studies and projects consistent with applicable research skills.
- Maintaining professional development and continuing education to support competency and performance consistent with professional occupational health nursing standards.
- Demonstrating a commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance with the Boston Scientific Quality Policy and all applicable documented quality processes and procedures.
- Applying in-depth occupational health nursing knowledge across a variety of situations while working independently within company policies, guidelines and procedures.
- Collaborating across related teams, communicating complex information effectively and contributing to projects and initiatives that support organizational objectives.
Qualifications:
Required qualifications:
- Current nursing licensure appropriate to practice in the state of Georgia.
- Occupational or clinical nursing knowledge and experience sufficient to independently assess employee health needs, develop nursing care plans and coordinate appropriate treatment and follow-up.
- Experience assessing and managing occupational injuries, illnesses or workplace exposures.
- Experience coordinating clinical cases, including return-to-work considerations, work restrictions, modified schedules or job accommodations.
- Knowledge of professional nursing standards and applicable privacy, confidentiality, legal and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound clinical judgment and manage problems of varying scope and complexity.
- Ability to communicate complex health-related information and collaborate effectively with employees, leaders, health care providers, vendors and cross-functional partners.
Preferred qualifications:
- Occupational health nursing experience in a corporate, manufacturing, medical device or similarly regulated environment.
- Experience with occupational health case management, injury prevention and health promotion programs.
- Experience conducting workplace health assessments or supporting workplace exposure follow-up.
- Experience collaborating with Environmental, Health and Safety teams and external health care or rehabilitation providers.
