Location: Los Alamos, NM (100% Onsite) Compensation: $34-$39/hr

Schedule: 4/10s Mon-Thu or 5/8s (40 hrs/week) Duration: Short-term contract through 09/30/2026

Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship Required Clearance: No clearance required

IMPACT

The LANL Research Library is seeking temporary onsite Information Research Specialists to support a collection logistics, indexing, and inventory project. This is a detail-oriented, process-driven role where your accuracy directly affects the quality and completeness of one of the nation's premier scientific research libraries. You will help coordinate high-volume shipments of boxed technical reports for offsite storage, maintain barcode and inventory records, support onsite indexing, and review the quality of outsourced indexed records before they are uploaded into library systems.

No security clearance is required, making this an accessible entry point into LANL's operating environment for candidates who bring strong organizational skills, accurate data entry habits, and the ability to follow detailed procedures with consistency.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Track and coordinate boxes of documents prepared for offsite storage
• Create and maintain spreadsheets of box barcodes and inventory data, including title, author, subject, and related indexing information
• Prepare boxes and materials for shipment, storage, or other approved handling
• Support logistics planning for high-volume shipping, including tracking what is sent and when
• Upload box and inventory data into an online system
• Communicate with an offsite storage vendor, LANL groups, and local project teams
• Help review and coordinate work completed by student workers or project assistants
• Index reports onsite, including reports that may contain Controlled Unclassified Information
• Review indexed records received from an outsourced indexing vendor for accuracy, completeness, and consistency

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong attention to detail and accurate data entry experience
• Strong organizational skills and ability to follow detailed procedures and protocols
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Experience using spreadsheets such as Microsoft Excel or similar tools
• Ability to lift boxes up to 25 pounds frequently
• Ability to work efficiently and complete tasks at a steady pace
• Minimum 2 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• No degree required

DESIRED SKILLS

• Experience with indexing, metadata entry, inventory tracking, or quality control
• Experience following procedures for controlled or sensitive information
• Background in library services, records management, archives, logistics, or technical information
