Marine Shipfitter - Pensacola Shipyard

Now hiring Shipfitters with 1+ years of shipyard experience to work in/at the Pensacola Shipyards. Job Summary Skilled tradesmen who develop, lay out, fit, bolt, assemble, and erect plate, shapes, and pipe as part of a structural assembly for ship construction, alteration, and repair as specified by blueprints, work orders, or supervisor instructions. The shipfitter builds and repairs the complete hull of a metal ship, ensuring its watertight integrity, and manufactures and installs interior and exterior weldments such as bulwarks, coamings, doors, foundations, gratings, hawse pipes, ladders, masts, bulkheads, king posts, racks, railings, sea chests, stanchions, stowages, tanks, trunks, yardarms, and hull zincs. The shipfitter repairs and removes damage, prepares surfaces for welding, burning, riveting, and drills holes. The role may also require operation of roll, punch, shear, track burner, drill, or saw equipment, and the coordination of staging, crane service, ventilation, lighting, and support services. Schedule MON‑THUR: 7:30 am – 4 pm FRIDAY: 7:30 am – 3 pm *Overtime is typically available but not mandatory Typical working hours are 40 hours per week. Work exceeding 40 hours is considered overtime and paid at time‑and‑a‑half. A 10‑minute paid morning break is taken at 9:30 am daily. A 30‑minute unpaid lunch break runs from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm. Requirements Pass a pre‑employment drug test Pass a non‑DOT physical agility assessment Complete an OSHA respirator questionnaire (completed at clinic during physical) Participate in random quarterly drug tests Complete a standard pre‑employment background check Benefits Available after completion of the temporary period. Health Dental Vision Essential Functions I. Determine the position of structural components, working from blueprints or templates, locating specific components, and marking reference lines such as centers and frame lines. Physical demands: limited lifting (none over 50 lb without assistance), standing while reviewing drawings, occasional walking, occasional moving parts. II. Fitters are responsible for locating parts as specified by blueprints, ensuring fit with other components. Physical demands: standing and walking frequently, bending, squatting, pulling/pushing, reaching, handling, lifting or carrying objects up to 40 lb occasionally. III. Fitters are required to fit various metal parts into the vessel or module to precise specifications and measurements, aligning parts for tacking. Tools used include hammers, screwdrivers, wedges, torches, clips, shims, levels, squares, and measuring tape. Fitters must visually inspect all tools before use. Transportation Each individual is responsible for providing or arranging their own transportation to and from the shipyard. Take Appropriate Safety Measures When working from heights or around edges, employees must ensure sufficient rails to prevent falls, check lanyards and harnesses before use in hazardous high locations, protect against UV radiation, and ensure adequate ventilation to remove toxic fumes from welding and burning operations. All Workers Are Required To Wear Safety Equipment Including Hard Hat, Safety Glasses, Ear Plugs, Safety Toed Shoes. Respirators and Fall Protection must be worn when working in areas requiring additional protection. Standard Practice Employees are often required to perform other jobs beyond the essential functions of their primary job, such as assisting with cleaning and debris removal, partnering with teams to meet stringent deadlines, or filling in temporarily for absent employees.
