Assistant Varsity Wrestling Coach

Job Summary
Okemos High School is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our athletic department as an Assistant Varsity Wrestling Coach for the upcoming season. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in wrestling, a commitment to student-athlete development, and the ability to foster a positive and competitive team environment. This seasonal position will support the head coach in all aspects of the wrestling program, ensuring a successful and enriching experience for our student-athletes.

Responsibilities
- Assist the head coach in planning and implementing practice sessions, drills, and strategies to enhance team performance.
- Provide instruction and support to student-athletes in skill development, technique, and sportsmanship.
- Help organize and supervise team activities, including competitions, tournaments, and fundraising events.
- Monitor the academic progress and overall well-being of student-athletes, promoting a balanced approach to athletics and academics.
- Collaborate with the head coach to evaluate individual and team performance, providing constructive feedback for improvement.
- Assist in the recruitment and retention of student-athletes, fostering a welcoming and inclusive team culture.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant athletic regulations and guidelines, including safety protocols and eligibility requirements.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding team updates, schedules, and expectations.
- Attend coaching clinics and workshops to stay updated on best practices and developments in the sport.

Requirements
- Previous experience in wrestling as a coach, athlete, or official, with a strong understanding of the sport's techniques and strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- A commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive team environment.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and first aid procedures related to wrestling.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, during the wrestling season.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred, or willingness to obtain certification prior to the start of the season.
- A high school diploma or equivalent; a college degree in a related field is a plus.
