Global Kids’ (GK) mission is to educate, inspire, and mobilize youth to become global citizens who are positively engaged in the world and are prepared for their future. Over its 36-year history, the organization has engaged thousands of young people in its innovative youth development programs that promote global awareness and action, building their agency to effect change in their community and beyond. 

Global Kids expects to serve over 12,000 youth and educators in New York City and Washington, D.C., with its core service-delivery model that includes leadership development workshops, comprehensive after-school programs, and community schools. These programs foster essential skills, provide critical support, and establish pathways for future youth success. 

The Community School Site Director will coordinate several core components of the community school initiative, including attendance interventions, parent engagement activities, social and emotional wellness programs, college and career preparation, and community outreach, and oversee Global Kids’ programming. The ideal candidate will have experience in leadership roles and familiarity with New York City schools, working with multiple stakeholders. 

Responsibilities include:

School & Community Coordination

• Partner with the principal and school leadership to implement and assess the work of community partners aligned with school priorities and community school initiatives. 
• Develop and support strong relationships with parents, students, teachers, and school leadership to support the community school strategy 
• Attend regular meetings including but not limited to attendance, school climate, guidance, and family engagement meetings 
• Work with school leadership to maintain a focus on results and track progress.

Administrative Tasks

• Ensure all program and student records (digital and hard copy) are securely maintained, including but not limited to internship payments, incentive forms, student trips, and events.
• Ensure attendance and other data are entered into appropriate database systems. 
• Adhere to all GK fiscal procedures for ordering supplies and reporting on expenses 
• Work with the school leadership and Director of School Based Programs to ensure that the site is adequately resourced, operational, and has proper safety measures in place. 
• Coordinate routine ordering, purchasing, supplies, incentives, trip paperwork, event logistics, records, and other day-to-day program execution.

College and Career Preparedness

• Facilitate opportunities for students to explore post-secondary plans and pathways. 
• Support work-based learning initiatives within the school, including tracking payroll for program participants 

Data Management, Outcomes & Evaluation 

• Organize and oversee an annual “Assets and Needs Assessment” for the school community to seek input from all stakeholders in the school community to determine the ongoing needs of students and families. 
• Support in quality assurance reporting for all Global Kids services
• Assist with data collection, research, and prepare relevant data for outcomes evaluation and data-informed decision-making. 

Attendance

• Manage and conduct attendance outreach, recruitment, and retention services, including attendance monitoring/data review, data entry, conferences, attendance incentive activities, and phone calls. 
• Remain informed on current Community Schools/Attendance Intervention and Dropout Prevention guidelines and contractor responsibilities; attend provider meetings, CSD training, and maintain contact with DOE-OCS Program Manager. 

Supervision and Management

• Provide overall support, management, and supervision of school-based Global Kids staff, including daily management of tasks, facilitating weekly staff check-ins, daily program observations with immediate feedback, and performance evaluations. 
• Review and approve staff time sheets and school sign-in sheets on a bi-weekly basis. 
• Ensure Global Kids and school staff members are aware of changes and new developments to contractual and programmatic guidelines and expectations. 

School Day and Extended Learning Day Programming

• Work with school leadership, Work-Based Learning, and CTE partners to ensure these services are implemented with fidelity and achieve key youth development outcomes in academic achievement, health and wellness, and character and leadership. 
• Organize special events, including the annual Community Forum and events aligned with the school’s priorities 
• Facilitate Global Kids staff and student participation in Global Kids organizational opportunities
• Attend school events, which may happen during after-school hours or on weekends. 
• Occasional overnight and long-distance travel is required. 
• Serve as a primary liaison to site-based leadership (i.e., the School Principal) and as the GK liaison to all school-based leadership teams, where appropriate. 
• Serve as primary contact for all site-based program partners and other site-based stakeholders, including parents/guardians. 

Coordination of Social Services

• Identify local community resources and broker new partnerships that are aligned with school goals and needs. 
• Develop and institutionalize partnerships with external social service and community development partners. 
• Attend to additional duties as assigned by the Director of School-Based Programs and DWC school leadership

Qualifications:

• A Master’s degree in a related field or 5 years of professional experience is preferred. 
• Experience working within the New York City Department of Education and knowledge of Department of Education policies and protocols. 
• Experience and ability to work with youth and/or use interactive learning strategies in culturally diverse settings. 
• Experience in community organizing and/or community outreach 
• Experience supervising personnel and managing teams.
• Experience managing large contracts and meeting multiple contractual obligations 
• Experience working in school-based settings with knowledge about community organizing, student support services, and youth development. 
• Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with school administrators, teachers, and community partners. 
• Commitment to and understanding of working in culturally diverse settings and using antiracist pedagogical practices 
• Knowledge of and passion for global issues, political science, history, education, and social activism. 
• Excellent facilitation, consensus-building, and interpersonal skills. 
• Strong work ethic, initiative, creativity, willingness to learn, and ability to manage multiple tasks independently. 
• Strong communication, writing, organizational, and technology skills.
