Job Overview and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY:

The role requires a solid understanding of patient reactions to medications, potential side effects, and appropriate dosages in respiratory care. Effective communication with physicians, patients, nursing staff, allied health professionals, management, the public, and administration is essential. The ability to teach, assess, and reassess is crucial. Recognizing and reporting instances of patient abuse and neglect is a key responsibility. A foundational knowledge of dynamic and static pulmonary function values, along with accepted practices in respiratory care as directed by physicians for all age groups, is necessary. The position also involves demonstrating expertise in the delivery, setup, and maintenance of respiratory care equipment for both routine and non-routine applications. Conducting patient assessments and recommending suitable therapeutic and diagnostic modalities according to departmental protocols is expected. Additionally, the role includes establishing and assisting with the maintenance of arterial lines.

POPULATION SERVED:

This position serves all employees and staff at our facility, including clinical and non-clinical departments, patients and their families, physicians, volunteers, agency staff, contract workers, students, and the broader community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Utilizes knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and emergency procedures to ensure safe and effective respiratory care for patients.
• Adheres to strict infection control protocols at all times.
• Facilitates in-service training for peers and staff at least four times annually and as needed.
• Develops and practices customer service skills in interactions with both internal and external customers.
• Engages in Quality Improvement initiatives as assigned.
• Implements Assess and Treat Protocols.

Qualifications Required:

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of starting employment.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification must be obtained within 30 days of starting employment.
• STABLE certification must be obtained within 30 days of starting employment.
• Associate Degree is required.

No prior experience is necessary.
