Special Assistant

Senator Chris Van Hollen is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and dependable Special Assistant. This trusted Washington, DC-based position provides direct support to the Senator in managing various engagement responsibilities, staying abreast of the Senator’s schedule and helping him meet all commitments as efficiently as possible. Primary duties will include but are not limited to: driving the Senator in DC and for state events including on early mornings, evenings, weekends and/or holidays; staffing the Senator in the Capitol complex; coordinating with office staff to manage the Senator’s involvement at events; compiling and delivering the Senator’s daily briefing materials; and serving as liaison between the Senator and office staff, facilitating timely communication and follow-up on priorities and requests. The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, discretion, and strategic thinking, and is able to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment. Success in this role requires the ability to anticipate potential issues that may impact the schedule and priorities of the day, manage time effectively and remain solutions-oriented while responding to urgent requests.
