Advanced Practice Nurse, NP, Outpatient Neurology, Palos Heights - Full Time

Position Department: 02240 AMG Palos Heights – Neurology Location: Palos Heights, IL Status: Full time Hours per Week: 40 Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8‑hour shifts. No inpatient responsibilities or call requirements. Key Responsibilities Independently manage follow‑up neurology patients under established clinical protocols. Perform focused neurological histories and exams, assessing disease progression. Manage chronic neurologic conditions with an emphasis on neuromuscular and movement disorders. Order, review, and interpret routine diagnostics (labs, MRI/CT, EEG). Initiate, titrate, and monitor medications, ensuring optimal therapeutic outcomes and side‑effect management. Provide triage of patient calls, portal messages, and urgent outpatient concerns, escalating when appropriate. Deliver comprehensive patient education on diagnoses, treatment plans, and long‑term disease management strategies. Coordinate referrals for imaging, therapy, rehabilitation, and subspecialty care to support continuity of care. Partner with physicians to maintain efficient clinic flow and shared follow‑up coverage. Support documentation, adherence to clinical protocols, and participation in outpatient quality improvement initiatives. Additional Clinical Responsibilities Diagnose and manage patient conditions based on evidence‑based care and clinical assessment. Prescribe pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic interventions. Offer health promotion, disease prevention counseling, and patient education. Manage patients within scope of practice while seeking consultation or referral as needed. Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record. Ensure coding and billing practices comply with payer and regulatory standards. Participate in quality, safety, and peer‑review initiatives, and organizational meetings. Educate and onboard new team members and students. Maintain productivity and quality metrics that support optimal patient care delivery. Qualifications Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) with active board certification and registration in the state of Illinois. Experience in neurology or a related field preferred. Strong clinical assessment and independent decision‑making skills. Proficiency in managing chronic, complex outpatient patient populations. Excellent communication and patient education skills. Ability to work independently and as an effective member of a collaborative health‑care team. Proficiency with electronic medical record systems and evolving technology. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and twist throughout the workday. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist, 20 lbs over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs over a reasonable distance. Functional speech, vision, hearing, and tactile senses.
