Opportunity:

RN - Tele

Job Details:

• Day shifts run from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM and night shifts run from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Every other weekend rotation required
• 50% of holidays per contract required
• Low census on-call possible for up to 36 hours per contract
• Schedule is created in 6-week increments and released approximately 3 weeks prior to the start of the schedule
• Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg or Telemetry experience required
• First-time travelers accepted
• Care for mostly geriatric patients including post-op orthopedic (total hips, total knees), post-op urology (TURPs, cystos), post-op general surgery (ostomies, gallbladder, appendectomies, colectomies), and general medical patients (CHF, COPD, respiratory/kidney/liver/GI issues, CIWA, IVDA, diabetic, and cardiac overflow)
• Day shift RN patient ratio is 1:4-5 and night shift RN patient ratio is 1:6-7 (up to 1:8 but not common)
• Skills required include experience with orthopedic patients, CBI, NG tube placement and management, foley placement and management, chest tube management, Pleurex and other drains, wound care, central line/ports/midline blood draws, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Drip management includes Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, Lasix, and insulin (titration within set parameters)
• EMR system is EPIC - experience preferred
• IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis
• Additional unit equipment includes CPM, virtual monitoring equipment, and ceiling lift
• May float to other Med/Surg units or anywhere in the hospital where Med/Surg patients are located, including ER hold and ICU, but will only take Med/Surg patient assignments
• Orientation includes NEO and one 12-hour shift on the unit to learn the flow
• Required certifications: BLS; ACLS preferred
• Scrub color must be any solid color and professional - no graphics, logos, denim, or designs

Facility:

This facility is a Level IV Trauma Center with 100 beds total and a 33-bed unit on the Med/Surg Telemetry floor. The unit maintains an average daily census of 24-26 patients and offers comprehensive support services including a charge RN with reduced patient assignment, HUC until 1900, phlebotomy for peripheral lab draws, respiratory therapy and hospitalist coverage 24/7, OT/PT/ST during the day, and centralized telemetry monitoring with telemetry technicians and a central monitor at the nurses station. The unit culture is described as relatively engaged and positive, with strong teamwork particularly on the night shift.
