Position Overview Department: 02408 GCMG Ortho COSA: Rock Hill – Surgery: Orthopedics. Full time, 40 hours per week. Schedule: Monday through Friday 08:00 to 17:00. No weekends or holidays. Travel to Fort Mill, Pineville, and Rock Hill required. Requires SC and NC ATC license. Pay range $26.55 – $39.85 per hour. Job Description This is a clinical athletic training position supporting a Surgical Sports surgeon. The role works alongside surgeons, providers, and other orthopedic team members in a clinical setting, managing care of patients, athletes, and the active population. Significant proportion of time is direct patient contact and care, including management and evaluation of head injuries and concussions seen in clinic. The position collaborates with physicians for optimal patient care and performs administrative responsibilities necessary for effective and efficient clinic flow. All duties are performed under the supervision of a directing physician. Responsibilities Provide clinical athletic training services in local orthopedic clinics following the rules and regulations of the National Athletic Trainers Association Code of Ethics, BOC standards of professional practice, applicable state practice act and regulations, and system-wide and orthopedic departmental policies and procedures. Travel to local orthopedics clinic locations as needed. Room patients and obtain pertinent medical history from patient/guardian. Perform clinical injury evaluation and assessment of patients’ level of function and follow standardized clinical practice in diagnostic reasoning and medical decision making. Order X‑rays and/or imaging exams for patients as directed by providers. Prepare injections as directed by provider. Support the physician with procedures and wound care. Apply custom splints and/or fiberglass casts and remove casts. Fit and instruct patients on use of braces, boots, crutches, splints, and other durable medical equipment (DME). Support the physician with concussion testing (baseline and/or post‑injury) and maintain necessary training on concussion education, management, and care. Provide therapeutic home exercise program instruction. Answer patient calls, prepare charts, manage patient paperwork, make post‑op calls, schedule and coordinate appointments, complete insurance, referral, disability, and FMLA forms, and obtain prior authorizations. Document and chart clinic notes in EPIC (EMR) with minimal mistakes. Maintain confidentiality (HIPAA) in matters related to patient records. Assist in patient education for chronic and acute disease. Participate in patient data collection for research studies as needed. Clean and stock exam rooms with required supplies. Adhere to departmental dress code when providing on‑site athletic training services. Participate in professional growth and development related to sports medicine to further knowledge and maintain competencies required for the position and specific unit(s) of assignment. Assist with planning, organizing, implementing, and compliance of departmental and policy initiatives. Perform other related clinical duties as required by state law and regulations. All employees must be immunized per CDC standards and hospital policy with limited exemptions as specified. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in athletic training from a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) program. Master’s degree preferred. Current athletic training certification by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC). Licensed or eligible for a state athletic training license within 30 days of hire. Ability to complete American Heart Association healthcare provider (BLS) training within 30 days of hire. Excellent leadership qualities, decision‑making skills, and problem‑solving abilities. Excellent communication skills, oral and written, including use of teach‑back. Ability to work independently and confidently. Proactive in building relationships with physicians and staff. Excellent interpersonal skills with diverse backgrounds. Confident in medical terminology communication. Works within the Sports Medicine Team concept and accepts assignments based on department need. Conflict resolution skills. Ability to work well with all ages, races, class, and gender.
