Job Title: CNC Swiss Machinist Job Description

This role is based in a precision CNC machine shop production area and focuses on operating and inspecting parts produced on CNC Star Swiss lathes and Cincinnati centerless grinding machines. You will work closely with a lead machinist to run parts, perform deburring, and verify dimensional accuracy using blueprints and precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers. The position offers hands-on training on machine operation, part inspection, and interpreting blueprints in a dynamic, high-demand job shop environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC Star Swiss SR-32J lathes to produce precision components according to job specifications and blueprints.

• Run Cincinnati centerless grinding machines to finish parts to required tolerances and surface quality.

• Perform deburring and grinding operations to ensure parts meet quality and finish standards.

• Work alongside the lead machinist to set up machines, run production, and complete changeovers as needed.

• Inspect parts and raw material using micrometers, calipers, and other inspection equipment to verify dimensional accuracy against blueprints.

• Read and interpret blueprints to understand part requirements, tolerances, and critical dimensions.

• Assist with machine setups and changeovers, including loading programs, adjusting tooling, and verifying first-piece quality.

• Use G&M codes on Fanuc controllers to run and adjust CNC programs as required for production.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area, following shop safety procedures and best practices.

• Lift and handle materials and parts up to 20 lbs as part of daily production tasks.

• Collaborate with team members and leads to troubleshoot minor issues with machines, tooling, or part quality.

• Document inspection results and communicate any nonconformances or quality concerns to appropriate personnel.

Essential Skills

• 2 years of experience working as a machinist or in a machine shop setting.

• 1–2 years of CNC experience, preferably with production or job shop work.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately.

• Proficiency using micrometers and calipers for part inspection.

• Experience with inspection equipment and basic quality checks.

• Ability to perform changeovers and machine setups on CNC equipment.

• Capability to lift and move up to 20 lbs in a production environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 1–3 years of CNC Swiss machining experience is strongly preferred.

• CNC Star Swiss machine experience, especially with SR-32J models.

• Experience setting up and operating machines with Fanuc controllers.

• Familiarity with G&M codes and CNC program adjustments.

• Job shop experience working on a variety of parts and materials.

• Deburring and grinding experience, including centerless grinding.

• Background in precision machining for industries such as aerospace, automotive, agricultural equipment, appliances, construction equipment, fasteners, oil and related sectors.

Work Environment

The role is located in a precision CNC machine shop in Addison, IL that focuses on custom, high-tolerance parts for industries including aerospace, agricultural equipment, appliances, archery, automotive, construction equipment, fasteners, and oil-related applications. The production area is equipped with Star CNC Swiss SR-32J machines and Cincinnati centerless grinders, with ongoing investment in additional CNC Star Swiss equipment to expand capacity. You will work on a first shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with regular overtime opportunities on Saturdays, averaging 50–60 hours per week. The environment is a typical machining and manufacturing setting, requiring adherence to shop safety practices and appropriate work attire suitable for a machine shop, including durable clothing and closed-toe shoes. You will use precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers daily, work around running CNC and grinding equipment, and operate in a fast-paced, production-oriented atmosphere.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hodgkins, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $25.00/hr.
