Cleveland Clinic's inpatient pharmacy areas support distributive and clinical pharmacy services provided by staff pharmacists, clinical pharmacy specialists and pharmacy technicians, supporting 60 nursing units, 80 operating rooms, 4 PACUs, and 10 Cath labs, accounting for over 1,440 inpatient beds. As an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital link in moving medications throughout the facility to enhance patient care. You will join a team that empowers every caregiver to make valuable contributions to patient-focused care, teaching and research activities. A caregiver in this position will:

• Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
• Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
• Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
• Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
• Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
• Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma/GED
• Upon hire, you must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA).
• In addition to the above requirement, upon hire, it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee
• Please note: Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months
• Understanding of algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Six months of hospital experience
• Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program
• Experience with compounding or oncology

Physical Requirements:

• Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
