Director, Software Engineering

Director, Software Engineering

At Birdi, we're transforming the pharmacy and healthcare experience through technology, innovation, and patient-centered solutions. As we continue to evolve our technology ecosystem, we're investing in modern platforms and AI-enabled tools that can help us build smarter, more scalable healthcare experiences.

This is an opportunity to lead from the front. You'll help build a new AI-powered care platform from the ground up while shaping the engineering practices, architecture, tools, and team behind it.

If you're an engineering leader who still loves technology, enjoys building great teams, and is excited about the possibilities of AI in healthcare, this could be the opportunity for you.

The Director, Software Engineering will lead Birdi's software engineering team while driving the architecture and development of a greenfield, AI-powered care platform.

This role combines people leadership, technical strategy, architecture, and hands-on engineering expertise. You'll lead and develop software engineers, architect scalable backend systems using Golang (Go), guide database strategy across SQL Server and PostgreSQL, and establish engineering standards around testing, code quality, and deployment.

You'll also play a key role in defining how Birdi incorporates AI-assisted and agentic development tools into the software development lifecycle. You'll evaluate emerging AI technologies, including tools such as Claude Code and Codex, and guide their thoughtful adoption across the engineering team.

Working closely with Product, Design, and organizational leadership, you'll help translate business goals into technical strategy while ensuring Birdi's solutions meet the reliability, scalability, security, and compliance expectations of healthcare technology.

This isn't a role focused on maintaining the status quo. The Director, Software Engineering will have the opportunity to help build something new.

You'll influence the architecture, engineering strategy, development practices, AI tooling, and team culture behind a greenfield healthcare platform. You'll also help determine how emerging AI technologies can responsibly enhance the way Birdi's engineers develop software.

For an engineering leader who enjoys developing people but still wants to stay close to the technology, this role offers an opportunity to make an impact at both the technical and organizational level.
