Overview

A hospital in Glendale, Arizona is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing to lead surgical and perioperative services. This role provides operational, clinical, financial, and strategic oversight for a hospital-based nursing department.

The Director will lead staff, improve workflows, maintain regulatory readiness, strengthen physician relationships, and support safe, patient-centered care. The position requires a nursing leader with progressive operating room management experience and the ability to balance quality, service, staffing, productivity, and financial performance.

Responsibilities

• Direct the daily operation and long-term strategy of surgical and perioperative nursing services.
• Establish, implement, and enforce department policies, procedures, standards, and performance objectives.
• Lead workforce planning, hiring, onboarding, performance management, employee development, and retention efforts.
• Prepare and manage the department budget while monitoring productivity, staffing, supply costs, and resource utilization.
• Develop corrective action plans when financial, operational, quality, or service results vary from established goals.
• Promote employee engagement, professional development, accountability, and effective communication across the department.
• Partner with physicians, hospital leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to improve clinical operations and patient care.
• Support positive patient experiences and develop action plans based on satisfaction and service results.
• Maintain compliance with applicable accreditation, regulatory, safety, and hospital standards.
• Monitor quality indicators, patient outcomes, core measures, and department performance metrics.
• Oversee the proper function, maintenance, repair, and preventive servicing of department equipment and instrumentation.
• Participate in hospital committees and represent nursing leadership in operational and medical staff discussions.
• Mentor clinical leaders and support strategies that strengthen department growth and service capacity.

Required Qualifications

• Current Arizona Registered Nurse license.
• At least five years of progressive operating room or perioperative nursing management experience.
• At least five years of nursing management experience in a hospital setting.
• At least three years of supervisory experience.
• Bachelor's degree in nursing, business administration, management, or a related field, or equivalent qualifying experience.
• Demonstrated experience with staffing, budgeting, productivity, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and patient experience.
• Strong leadership, communication, delegation, and problem-solving abilities.

• Master of Science in Nursing.
• WOCN certification when applicable to wound-care oversight.
