Job Description
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Civil Commitment Unit for Sex Offenders (CCUSO) is seeking aNurse Supervisor to join our team! This is a full-time position with a daytime schedule and on-call responsibilities.
Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Iowa by the Iowa Board of Nursing (IBON) or licensure as a RN in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrator's Agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
The Nurse Supervisor provides clinical and operational leadership for nursing services within a secure inpatient civil commitment environment. This position is responsible for supervising nursing staff, ensuring high-quality patient care, maintaining compliance with applicable policies and regulations, and promoting a safe, professional, and therapeutic treatment environment. The Nurse Supervisor collaborates closely with interdisciplinary teams including medical providers, behavioral health professionals, administration, and security personnel to support patient care, operational efficiency, and staff accountability.
This role requires strong leadership, sound clinical judgement, effective communication skills, and the ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced and highly structured environment.
Preferred qualifications include previous supervisory or charge nurse experience; at least five (5) years of secure inpatient treatment experience; strong leadership, conflict resolution, and communication skills; ability to work independently and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations; and knowledge of nursing regulations, documentation standards, and safe patient practices.
Applicants will be required to complete a background check to be considered for this position.
CCUSO provides a secure, long-term, and highly structured setting to treat sexual offenders who have served their prison terms, but, in a separate civil trial, have been found likely to reoffend. The facility provides state-of-the-art treatment to patients to lower their risk of re-offending and to release them from confinement as quickly as possible.
