Supervising Clinical Laboratory Scientist

Position Overview Contra Costa County Health Services Department is seeking a Supervising Clinical Laboratory Scientist to oversee the Blood Bank, Urinalysis, and Coagulation departments at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) in Martinez, CA. This full‑service county hospital offers a patient‑centered environment and a modern laboratory setting. Key Responsibilities Assign daily work schedules to CLSs and cover benches when vacancies arise. Assist in preparing and submitting quality assurance reports to the laboratory assistant manager. Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve pending order issues and peer review report discrepancies. Design and manage competency programs for new and existing staff; evaluate performance when required. Collaborate with Information Technology staff to maintain the Laboratory Information System. Maintain and update laboratory policies and procedures. Required Qualifications Valid and unrestricted Clinical Laboratory Scientist license issued by the California Department of Public Health. Minimum of three (3) years of full‑time experience as a licensed senior scientist in a clinical laboratory performing varied tests and analyses. Strong knowledge of basic principles and laboratory applications across immunohematology, microbiology, hematology, and chemistry. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. High level of organization and the ability to plan staff assignments and schedules. Professional customer service orientation toward internal and external clients. Desired Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Laboratory Science, or related field. Minimum six (6) years of experience as a licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist with proficiency in all laboratory disciplines. Knowledge of Federal, State, County, and Joint Commission standards and regulations. Experience with "Epic" and "Wellsky" laboratory information systems. Prior supervisory or managerial experience.
