Facilities Department | Part-Time | Non-Exempt | Starting @ $13/hr JOB SUMMARY The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of buildings, public spaces, and grounds throughout Brookgreen Gardens. It’s an active, hands‑on role — and one that makes a real difference in the experience of every guest who walks through our gates. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Keep buildings, public areas, and grounds clean and well‑maintained on a scheduled and routine basis Handle daily trash removal from buildings and office areas across the property Monitor and maintain cleaning supply inventory at stocking stations throughout the property Ensure all chemicals are properly labeled in compliance with OSHA, AZA, and SDS safety standards Report facility concerns — including lighting and maintenance issues — to the Manager of Facilities Assist with setup and breakdown of facilities for special events and programs Perform other duties as assigned in support of department and organizational needs KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Positive, professional demeanor with the ability to interact warmly with guests and coworkers Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high cleanliness and safety standards Ability to work independently and as part of a team Valid South Carolina driver’s license Reliable and dependable — our guests expect a clean, welcoming environment every day EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma or equivalent preferred Previous custodial or facilities maintenance experience preferred (2+ years a plus) Familiarity with cleaning chemicals and OSHA/SDS standards a plus WORKING CONDITIONS Active role requiring movement throughout the property for the duration of each shift Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs and perform bending, stooping, and reaching Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, dust, and noise Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings — our guests don’t take days off Pre-employment drug screen and background check required upon hire.
