Director, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)

Position Summary The Director of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) is a senior finance leader responsible for financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis. This role serves as a strategic business partner to senior leadership, providing insights that support investment decisions, cost management, and long-term growth. The FP&A Director combines financial expertise with strategic leadership to support the organization’s financial health through sound planning, strong analysis, and effective executive communication. Lead the FP&A function: Oversee budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial modeling to support executive decision-making. Develop policies and procedures: Establish standards for financial data collection, analysis, and reporting to ensure accuracy and compliance. Build financial models and forecasts: Develop and refine models, scenario analyses, and long-range financial plans. Monitor performance: Review of financial statements, reports, and key metrics to identify trends, risks, and opportunities. Lead budgeting and capital planning: Direct the annual budget process, including capital expenditure planning. Prepare management reports: Deliver quarterly and annual reports for senior leadership and the board. Partner cross-functionally: Collaborate with departments to align financial strategies with business goals. Education and/or Experience Experience: Typically, 10+ years in FP&A or finance management; 15+ years of total experience is often preferred by employers. Technical skills: Advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets, financial modeling, data analysis, and finance systems. Soft skills: Strong analytical, strategic thinking, communication, and presentation skills. Industry knowledge: Deep understanding of the organization’s industry and financial operations. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and prescriptions. Ability to write routine notes and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
