Quality Lab Technician

Schedule: Quality Lab Technicians work 3 or 4 12-hour shifts from 7am-7pm or 7pm - 7am each week on the 2-2-3 schedule.

Pay: $26 per hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This role will spend approximately 30% of the workday in the quality lab and 70% of the time on the production floor conducting inspections, coaching, and providing real-time support for quality initiatives.

Quality Lab Duties (30% of day):

• Perform testing in the quality lab (e.g., Rewet, ROA testing, total weights).
• Process final release of product paperwork.
• Enter test data in the database.
• Provide assistance and guidance to quarantine any product suspected of being defective.
• Back up the Quality Technicians during their absence.

Production Floor Duties (70% of day):

• Lead daily 5-10-minute quality huddles at the start of shift per line.
• Visual inspection of product on the production lines.
• Work alongside Production Group Leaders to identify and resolve quality issues (e.g., rework, repack, scrap decisions).
• Conduct regular coaching with production staff to reinforce quality awareness:
  • Explain common customer complaints.
  • Clarify critical vs. cosmetic defects.
  • Emphasize how quality impacts the customer experience (Retail Quality Standard).
• Lead quality-focused engagement activities such as "Defect of the Week" reviews.
• Serve as an accessible floor-level resource to:
  • Answer questions related to quality standards.
  • Reinforce key terminology.

Additional Duties:

• Observe Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and safety procedures.
• Complete special assignments as directed by the Quality Manager or Quality Engineer.

Training Responsibilities

Conduct refresher training when:

• Defect trends emerge.
• New products are being introduced.
• Operators change lines or roles.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED required
• 2 years of quality preferred but not necessary

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong command of the English language. Strong consideration will be given to a person who is bilingual (reading and speaking) in Spanish and English.
• Be a strong communicator with personnel across all departments.
• Ability to read and interpret work instructions and product specifications
• Comfortable working in team-based environments
• Proficient in basic math
• Flexible and adaptable to frequent process or schedule changes
• Physical capabilities include standing, walking, lifting, and visual/auditory acuity
• Available to work overtime or alternate shifts as needed
• Works with minimal supervision
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Proficient in using computers and basic statistics for quality control documentation

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not include any direct supervisory responsibilities.
