Staff Accountant

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Insurance client in New York, New York on a Contract basis. This role supports daily and monthly accounting operations with a strong focus on cash activity, reconciliation work, and accurate general ledger reporting. The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing high-volume transaction support, preparing journal entries, and maintaining reliable financial records across multiple accounting processes.Responsibilities:• Review payment issues by researching stop requests, reconciling check activity, and resolving record discrepancies.• Create and post journal entries in NetSuite to capture daily and periodic accounting transactions accurately.• Track both current and prior-period bank activity, ensuring all items are properly matched and cleared.• Respond to internal requests for check documentation and provide timely support to business partners across departments.• Maintain reconciliation records by updating banking databases for processed stop payments and reclaim activity each day.• Adjust payment statuses for non-replacement stop requests and ensure related records remain accurate across systems.• Record reclaim, reversal, and manual payment activity in the general ledger according to established reporting timelines.• Update cash reconciliation platforms with check status information and investigate exceptions to align system data with bank reports.• Complete daily cash matching tasks and prepare monthly reconciliations for assigned accounts with appropriate supporting detail.
