Position SummaryThe Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Intern will assist the EH&S Department in developing, implementing, coordinating, and maintaining EH&S programs and policies in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.This internship is on-site and can be part-time (20+hours/week) or full-time, with the schedule determined based on availability and course load.Job SummaryTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Serve on various EH&S related committees (Site safety committee, 6S committee, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Team).Gather and maintain records of all required environmental reporting.Coordinate and maintain documentation of safety and environmental training for new hires and employees.Assist with plant safety inspections, document non-conformances, and advise proper corrective action.Participate in process reviews (such as process hazard analyses, etc.).Update the site’s chemical inventory and safety data sheet library.Work with the EH&S Manager to develop machine specific lock out tag out procedures.Administrator to the EH&S Management software, Gensuite.Assist with management of incoming safety concern reports including assignment to the proper department and tracking reports to closure.Assist with monthly sustainability data entry reporting.Assist with injury/illness and non-injury incident investigations to determine causal factors.Assist in conducting New Hire Safety Orientations.Partner with leads and manufacturing personnel to review and update job hazard analysis documents.Creates presentations to report on current projects to Leadership team.Projects will include state and federal environmental health and safety regulatory programs including the Clean Air Act, RCRA, Clean Water Act, EPCRA, DOT, OSHA, etc.Performs other duties as required.Required SkillsEffective attention to detail.Proficient user of MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook; other productivity tools.Able to read and interpret Cal OSHA, OSHA, and environmental regulations.Possess excellent problem solving, organizational and verbal & written communication skills.Highly organized, self-motivated individual who can work independently as well as work effectively in a collaborative team environment.A strong technical aptitude along with the ability to work independently, yet interact closely with other departments, customers, and vendors.Required ExperiencePrior experience as an EH&S intern desired but not required.Level of EducationMinimum second year students working towards bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental/Civil, Chemical/Safety Engineering.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
