Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (Children’s) and Emory University Department of Pediatrics are seeking a leader with strong clinical and academic leadership experience to serve as Chief, Neuropsychology at Children’s.
Expectations of Leadership
Children’s and its academic partner Emory strive to have a preeminent Neuropsychology program that is recognized for advancing clinical, educational, and scholarly activities with the goal of being a top tier program in all areas. To that end, the Chief will have made noteworthy progress in the following areas within the first 18 to 24 months of his or her tenure:
- Establish oneself as a credible, trusted and highly collaborative clinical team leader among the medical staff and administrative leaders at Children’s through performance as a clinician and a provider leader. It is essential this leader is visible and gain credibility quickly.
- Evaluate the current clinical operations model, provide recommendations collaborating with operational leaders to improve system performance, quality, service excellence, family experience and more efficient ways to meet patient care needs. Consistent performance of care delivery and clinical outcomes will be achieved.
- Define vision and strategies in alignment with Children’s program development, identifying which services are offered, prioritizing resource allocation, and balancing missions of patient care, research, and teaching.
- Establish a “team care” culture within all aspects of Children’s Neuropsychology services and initiatives strengthening the partnership of providers, advanced practice professionals, allied health professionals and staff in delivering outstanding patient centered care.
- Advance clear communication channels with staff within the division and with campus medical directors, program medical directors, and executive leaders resulting in alignment, trust, accountability, and collaborative working relationships in the pursuit of system‑wide collaboration and esprit de corps.
- Maintain an elevated level of scholarly achievement in the Division with continuation of notable clinical research, publications, and national presence.
- Continuing to invest in the effective recruitment of fellows and neuropsychologists, set a favorable tone regarding programmatic strengths and stature, and ensure that we continue to attract the highest caliber trainees.
- Create professional development plans for individual faculty providing access to mentorship and alignment to key mission areas. Focus on the retention and development of neuropsychologists and psychometrists.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the administrative, professional, clinical, research and educational activities of the specialty or service.
- Oversee the delivery of clinical services in the specialty or service and develop resources related to these services in conjunction with the respective medical directors and administrators.
- Assure appropriate and continuous coverage of inpatient, outpatient, and consultative services at all relevant clinical sites.
- Drive provider alignment through internal and external provider partnerships and relationships.
- Implement continuous improvement, monitoring, and reporting activities for procedures and protocols within the specialty or service.
- Determine rolling plan for the specialty or service, balancing all three missions, as applicable (clinical, academic, research).
- Decide levers for prioritizing achieving quality outcomes in collaboration with quality leader.
- Determine services offered and opportunities for needed program development.
- Determine integrated growth and sustainability strategies for the specialty or service.
- Deliver on Operate with Excellence, encompassing people, patient experience, quality and patient safety, and financial categories.
Candidate Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following credentials:
Education
- Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology or Doctor of Psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA)/Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) accredited program.
- Completion of a formal postdoctoral fellowship in Neuropsychology, with an emphasis in pediatrics.
Certification Summary
- Board certified in Clinical Neuropsychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) or American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology (ABCN).
- Licensed Psychologist in the state of Georgia.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment.
- Meets eligibility requirements for credentialing as part of the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta professional staff.
Experience and Skills
- A minimum of 8 years’ experience in direct assessments and care of children with complex medical and neurological conditions.
- In addition to clinical experience, 5-10 years administrative or leadership experience in a pediatric hospital or health care setting.
- Experience building and maintaining partnerships between clinical and non-clinical stakeholders.
- Experience in acquiring philanthropic and governmental program support.
- Ability to unify and galvanize providers within specialty or service.
- Demonstrates transparency by communicating decisions and reasoning early and often.
- Able to resolve issues promptly by removing roadblocks as necessary/appropriate.

Children’s Division of Neuropsychology
At Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, the Division of Neuropsychology is part of the Neurosciences Center along with Neurology, Neurosurgery and Neurophysiology. Our Neurosciences Center is comprised of all Children’s and Emory Pediatric Institute employed providers. We do not have any private practice or community providers in our Center. We have strong partnerships in our center. In 2023, Neurology and Neurosurgery submitted 50% of the outpatient referrals Neuropsychology received. Our Neuropsychologists also partnered with our Epilepsy Surgery team to conduct over 50 special procedures for our Epilepsy Surgery patient population.
The Division of Neuropsychology provides dedicated consult service to the Scottish Rite Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Program. Children’s program is one of the nation’s largest pediatric programs of its kind. Neuropsychology partners with rehabilitation, social work, child life, psychology and other service providers to provide comprehensive care to our patients and families. Neuropsychology also partners with our Cardiac team to support our Cardiac patients and families through the Cardiac Neurodevelopment Program. In addition, Neuropsychology partners with various other specialties in areas like Concussion, Muscular Dystrophy, Neuroimmunology, Genetics, Early Childhood and Neurodevelopment Follow‑Up clinics.
Additional Information
Employment will be in the Emory + Children’s Pediatric Institute. The Emory + Children’s Pediatric Institute is an affiliation between Emory University and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta that is improving the lives of children in Georgia and beyond. The Pediatric Institute combines the unique strengths and resources of each institution in support of our three‑part academic missions of providing outstanding clinical care, conducting innovative basic science discovery and clinical research, and coordinating exceptional education of the future healthcare workforce.
