Construction Engineer Associate I

POSITION GOAL:The Construction Engineer Associate l will perform basic engineering duties associated with the construction of civil engineering projects. This position will support all aspects of construction projects for roadways, bridges, utilities, sewers, facilities, etc.; perform oversight and inspection of contractor activities; interpret plans and specifications and ensure work is performed in accordance with them; document field activities; measure and calculate quantities of work completed; observe materials testing and ensure proper materials are incorporated into the work.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - GENERAL:Possesses foundational engineering conceptsAcquires basic knowledge and develops basic skills through mentored experienceEvaluates and applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broader assignmentPerforms work assignments of minimal to moderate complexity. Ability to read and interpret plans and mentally visualize them. Have foresight to recognize potential construction issues in the field and bring them to the attention of appropriate parties for resolution. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe and Bluebeam. Basic understanding of local government agency standards and databases, specifically, IDOT, CDOT, Bluebeam, and the Tollway preferredSupervisory Responsibilities: N/APhysical Demands: Must be able to sit, walk, stand, reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel, climb, or balance, talk, or hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects tools or control. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on occasion.Working Environment: This job may require long periods of standing or walking in the field and include exposure to all types of outside weather conditions, varying noise levels, and hazards associated with construction. Wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment is required while performing work in the field. The employee may also be exposed to a general office environment, requiring long periods of sitting at a computer in ambient inside temperature, lighting and noise level. Due to the collaborative nature of this position, the work will need to be performed in the field or office, typically during normal business hours. Travel is required; must possess a valid license.Continuing Education: Complete state-required competency.
