Instrumentation and Control Engineer

Houston, TX We are currently seeking an experienced Principal Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join a major LNG capital projects team based in Houston, Texas. This is a senior-level opportunity for an engineer with extensive LNG, gas processing, or petrochemical experience who can provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle—from detailed design and procurement through commissioning, startup, and operational support. Overview The Principal I&C Engineer will serve as a key technical authority responsible for reviewing, assuring, and supporting instrumentation and control system design and implementation on large-scale capital projects. The successful candidate will work closely with EPC contractors, vendors, project teams, and operations personnel to ensure engineering quality, regulatory compliance, and operational reliability across complex process facilities. A strong understanding of Integrated Control and Safety Systems (ICSS), including DCS, SIS, and Fire & Gas Systems, is essential. Key Responsibilities Review and approve instrumentation specifications, datasheets, engineering deliverables, and procurement package. Provide QA/QC oversight of EPC engineering deliverables from detailed design through start-up. Support instrumentation and control system design reviews to ensure compliance with industry standards, project requirements, and regulatory obligation. Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs). Review supplier documentation and packaged equipment instrumentation requirements. Coordinate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams and EPC contractor. Review process control narratives, alarm management strategies, and control system modification. Support Cause & Effect reviews and Safety Instrumented System (SIS) functionality assessment. Participate in HAZOPs, HAZIDs, and other process safety review. Provide technical support during commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and operational optimization activities. Assist with process trip investigations and resolution of control system issues. Review contractor change orders and technical deviation. Support SmartPlant Instrumentation database management and integration activities. Participate in engineering audits and compliance review. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Instrumentation, Controls, Electrical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering. Minimum 10 years of experience with process control and automation systems in LNG, gas processing, refining, or petrochemical facilities. Strong expertise in Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and Fire & Gas Systems (FGS). Experience supporting major capital projects through engineering, construction, commissioning, and startup phase. Strong understanding of process control strategies, loop tuning, graphics, alarm management, and troubleshooting. Experience working directly with EPC contractors and equipment vendors. Preferred Qualifications 15+ years of relevant industry experience. LNG export or liquefaction facility experience. Honeywell DCS experience. Experience supporting brownfield expansions and facility upgrade. Familiarity with industrial cybersecurity requirements for control system. Strong technical leadership and problem-solving skill. Excellent communication and stakeholder management ability. Ability to work effectively across operations, engineering, construction, and contractor organization. Strong planning, organizational, and project execution skill. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced project environment. Travel This position is based in Houston, TX and will require periodic travel to operating facilities, EPC offices, vendor locations, and manufacturing sites within the U.S. and internationally as project requirements dictate. #J-18808-Ljbffr
