Duties You will facilitate cultural transitions between American deaf culture and American hearing cultures to assure communication of equivalent messages. You will coordinate with internal customers, project managers, and other working groups at the activity to provide customer satisfaction and the necessary sign language interpreting services to complete the mission of the organization. You will serve as the Contractor's Officer Representative responsible for contract administration, policy compliance, oversight and execution of contraction technical tasking. You will collaboratively develop new terminology to assist the deaf and hard of hearing community and use sign language interpreting to communicate more effectively due to the highly specific and technical jargon at NRL. You will plan, coordinate, and schedule basic sign language interpreting and deaf and hard of hearing culture training as appropriate. Requirements Must be a US Citizen. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal Qualifications You resume must demonstrate experience in translating, interpreting, or other work requiring the use of English and the other language; or a combination of work (that required English and the other language) and training at the Defense Language Institute, Foreign Service Institute, or comparable training. In addition to this, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11/12 or pay band (NO-03) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Facilitating communication in American Sign Language (ASL) and English, particularly within government, scientific research, engineering, legal, or medical settings; 2) Interpreting complex, technical, and confidential government material and concepts, including specialized agency terminology and acronyms and able to assist in the management and oversight of reasonable accommodations, contracts, and Sign Language Interpreter requests. Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree that included the appropriate foreign language from an English-speaking college or university, English from a college or university in the other country, or translating or interpreting where English and the foreign language were prerequisites. OR Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree that included the appropriate foreign language from an English-speaking college or university, English from a college or university in the other country, or translating or interpreting where the foreign language were prerequisites. OR An LL.M. degree in a field directly related to the position being filled that included the appropriate foreign language from an English-speaking college or university, English from a college or university in the other country, or translating or interpreting where English and the foreign language were prerequisites. OR A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. A transcript must be submitted with your application if qualifying using education.
