The PennDOT CDL Operator A position with the Department of Transportation gives current employees an exciting path to build new skills on the District 8 Paint Crew. This position supports the District 8 Paint Crew by operating paint equipment, transporting supplies, and completing manual labor tasks that keep roadway markings in top condition. It involves working with specialized machinery, monitoring paint systems, and maintaining safe field operations. As a PennDOT CDL Operator A, you will perform the following duties:

• Paint Equipment Operation: Operate truck-mounted pavement-marking machines and use hand and foot controls safely
• Safety Checks: Inspect equipment daily, adjust components, and report findings through written or verbal updates
• Line Painting: Operate remote paint guns to place accurate single and double lines while monitoring gauges and indicators
• Supply Transport: Drive supply trucks to move paint, beads, solvents, and tools to field locations
• Material Handling: Move bead pallets, paint totes, and equipment using manual lifting or mechanical assistance
• Maintenance Support: Perform minor repairs, maintain equipment cleanliness, and assist with winter overhaul tasks

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Work hours change due to operational needs, with the possibility to work overtime each day and on weekends during the painting season.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth of Pennsylvania job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

• All permanent employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and one additional Line Paint Crew required certification within the probationary period.
• This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
• This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
• All employees must obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job.

Additional Requirements:

• This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

• Possession of a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with the E or O restriction removed.
• Possession of an active Hazardous Materials (H) Endorsement.
