Job Details Employer: City of Kirkland Salary: $94,869.78 – $123,783.57 Annually Location: Kirkland, WA Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 202100766 FLSA: Exempt Bargaining Unit: MAC Closing Date: Continuous Job Summary The City of Kirkland is hiring a Recreation Supervisor for the Kirkland Teen Union Building (KTUB). The role will oversee facility operations, recreation programs (including drop‑in activities), and serve as the primary on‑site liaison with operating partners YES and 4 Tomorrow. KTUB serves youth with diverse backgrounds and provides a range of services and recreation programs during peak hours as well as adult and preschool‑age programming in the daytime. Funding for this position is current through December 2026, with anticipated continued funding during the City’s budget process. Applications will be reviewed starting Friday, May 1, 2026, and interviews are anticipated in May. Essential Functions Develop and administer quality recreation programs, activities, facility operations, services, and special events for all ages with diverse interests. Plan, implement, and monitor the expenditure and revenue budgets for existing and potential programs, services, and facilities. Recruit, hire, train, evaluate, motivate, and discipline full‑time, part‑time, seasonal, and volunteer staff as well as contracted staff. Ensure staffing coverage for programs, events, and emergencies, including after‑hours and weekend availability. Gather community feedback, respond to inquiries and complaints, and take corrective action to meet community needs. Research and develop new programs to meet community needs and promote the City’s goals. Develop and maintain facility and program policies, procedures, and rules. Negotiate fees and contracts for instructors, service providers, and special‑event performers. Create and analyze enrollment and revenue reports. Maintain safety and health standards for programs, transportation, and recreational activities. Maintain strong relationships with partners such as the Lake Washington School District and other vendors. Act as liaison to councils and advisory boards. Peripheral Duties Prepare grant applications and funding requests. Perform additional duties assigned by the Recreation Manager. Collaborate with city staff on regional initiatives and city events. Provide public presentations to community groups, boards, and the City Council. Assume the role of Recreation Manager in their absence. Execute assigned functions in the City’s emergency response plan. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficient in preparing and managing program budgets. Experience developing programs that meet diverse community needs. Ability to attract, retain, mentor, and motivate staff. Advanced organizational skills to manage multiple priorities. Excellent public relations, verbal and written communication skills. Conflict resolution skills with a solutions‑oriented approach. Strong interpersonal and customer‑relations skills. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities. Advanced computer proficiency (Windows Suite). Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration or related discipline. Four years of progressively responsible experience in a recreation specialty area, with a minimum of two years supervisory experience. Alternative education and experience combinations that demonstrate the requisite knowledge and skills may be considered. Licenses and Other Requirements: First Aid, CPR, and AED certification obtained within 30 days of hire. Valid Washington State Driver’s License and eligibility to be insured under City insurance for vehicle operation. Food Handler’s permit (PKCC only) obtained within 30 days of hire. Physical Demands and Working Environment Work is primarily in an office setting with frequent visits to program sites. Activities include occasional lifting of supplies up to 50 lbs. The position may require working evenings and weekends.
