We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated Principal Engineer to serve as the technical leader of our Mechanical Engineering function and play a key role in product development, manufacturing automation, and process improvement. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys both strategic leadership and hands‑on problem solving in a manufacturing environment.

Position Summary The

Principal Engineer

will serve as the lead Mechanical Engineer for WilliamsRDM and provide technical leadership for the StoveTop FireStop product line. This role is responsible for product design, manufacturing engineering, automation initiatives, new product development, process improvements, project management, and mentoring other engineers. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable developing engineering solutions in the office and working directly on the manufacturing floor to implement those solutions.

What You'll Do Engineering Leadership

Lead mechanical engineering activities across the organization.

Drive product improvements and cost reduction initiatives.

Lead development of next‑generation StoveTop FireStop products and product derivatives.

Mentor and develop engineering team members.

Provide technical guidance on engineering projects throughout the company.

Represent WilliamsRDM as needed by providing product testimony in STFS liability claims.

Manufacturing & Process Engineering

Lead manufacturing engineering efforts for high-volume assembly operations.

Identify and implement process improvements that increase efficiency, quality, and throughput.

Support assembly line automation initiatives from concept through implementation.

Optimize equipment layouts, workflows, and assembly methods.

Ensure equipment and process readiness for production.

This is not a desk‑only engineering position. Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience personally performing activities such as:

Detailed mechanical design and design‑for‑manufacturing activities.

Sourcing and implementing equipment, tooling, and production systems.

Developing and validating new manufacturing technologies and processes.

Working side‑by‑side with technicians, assemblers, and operators during equipment builds, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

Diagnosing and resolving equipment, machinery, automation, and process issues.

Participating in process development activities, including handling raw materials and evaluating process performance.

Fabricating, machining, modifying, or repairing parts and equipment when necessary.

Taking an active role in restoring production lines and manufacturing systems during equipment falures or downtime events.

Qualifications Required

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Minimum 10 years of Mechanical Engineering design experience.

Minimum 5 years in a manufacturing engineering, technical support, project management, or related manufacturing role.

Experience with injection molded part design, mold design, and production implementation.

Experience with assembly line automation, including design and process improvements.

Strong CAD experience.

Experience creating engineering drawings and technical documentation.

Knowledge of manufacturing engineering principles, quality systems, lean manufacturing, and process improvement methodologies.

Ability to read engineering drawings, schematics, and product specifications.

Preferred

Experience with high-volume mechanical or electro‑mechanical assembly operations.

Pneumatic and hydraulic system experience.

Supervisory or engineering management experience.

Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing expertise.

Experience introducing new products into production environments.

This position works in both office and manufacturing settings. Candidates should be comfortable working around production equipment, automation systems, moving machinery, and manufacturing processes. Occasional exposure to potassium bicarbonate powder and industrial production environments may occur. Safety equipment may be required in designated areas.

Additional Information

Travel up to 20% annually.
