Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: ER (Emergency Room) Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, TNCC, PALS or ENPC Must-Have: - 2 years of experience in Emergency Department or similar setting - Familiarity with caring for trauma, stroke, sepsis, CHF, and cardiac patients - Ability to manage ER holds Description: The Emergency Room Registered Nurse will provide high-quality care to patients in an emergency setting. Candidates may not have worked part-time, full-time, or PRN in any affiliated facility within the past year. The unit has a total of 243 bays for patient care. There is a fast track available for patients in the emergency room. A separate triage area exists, and travelers may occasionally be required to conduct triage. Patients are cared for in an intermixed environment, with no separate holding area for ER holds. Emergency Room RNs will manage their own ER holds. There are no separate psych or seclusion rooms available. In-house security is present to ensure safety. The unit typically sees 80-90 patients per day, and RN-to-patient ratios are 1 to 4. Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, TNCC, and ENPC or PALS. Common diagnoses encountered include trauma, stroke, sepsis, congestive heart failure, and cardiac conditions. Physicians and mid-level staff are present, as well as charge nurses and house supervisors. To provide support, nurse aids, paramedics, and patient sitters are available on the unit. The electronic medical record system used is Paragon. Respiratory therapy will complete ABGs, breathing treatments, and other procedures. Monitoring technology is not available on the unit; RNs must read ECG rhythms themselves. X-ray and CT imaging services are located next to the emergency department, with transport available. Phlebotomy is performed by either a tech or a registered nurse. Scheduling is self-managed, with options for day, night, and various shift lengths available. Weekend requirements are every other week, and holiday requirements occur every other holiday. There is no call or standby requirement for this position. Floating may be required to qualified units. The dress code for the unit is navy scrubs. Specific orientation for the unit will be provided. The cancellation policy allows for up to 4 shifts to be canceled for 13-week assignments and 3 shifts for shorter assignments.
