Job DescriptionDirector of Disability Services / Accessibility ResourcesPosition SummaryThe Director of Disability Services reports to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and provides strategic vision, leadership, and administrative oversight for all programs, services, and accommodations supporting students with disabilities.The Director ensures institutional compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other applicable regulations and serves as the institution’s subject matter expert on accessibility and disability services. The Director collaborates across academic and administrative units to support compliance, remove barriers to access, and facilitate access to academic and campus programs.The Director leads the office, oversees the accommodation process, manages complex cases, and serves as the institutional authority on accommodation determinations and related appeals.Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Strategic DirectionProvide leadership for Disability Services, including program development, service delivery, and long-term strategic planning.Develop, implement, and assess short- and long-term goals aligned with institutional priorities related to student success and retention.Serve as the campus leader on accessibility and accommodation practices.Compliance & Policy OversightEnsure institutional compliance with ADA, Section 504, and other federal, state, and local regulations.Serve as the primary institutional expert on legal requirements and compliance frameworks, including documentation standards and accommodation decision-making.Lead the process for determining reasonable accommodations through individualized evaluation of documentation.Develop, interpret, and enforce institutional policies and procedures related to disability services.Student Services & Case ManagementOversee the intake, eligibility determination, and coordination of accommodations for students with disabilities.Provide leadership on complex or high-impact cases and serve as the final decision-maker for accommodation determinations, appeals, and grievances.Ensure timely delivery of services, including:Testing accommodations and exam proctoringNote-taking and academic support servicesAlternative format materialsInterpreting, captioning, and auxiliary aidsAssistive technology access and trainingMaintain a visible and supportive presence for students and families, including prospective student engagement and transition support.Institutional CollaborationPartner with Academic Affairs, faculty, deans, and department chairs to support implementation of accommodations and address accessibility needs.Collaborate with campus partners to ensure physical, digital, and programmatic accessibility across the institution.Serve on institutional committees related to student success, risk management, and campus operations.Design and deliver campus-wide training and professional development on accessibility requirements, accommodation procedures, and legal compliance.Technology & Accessibility OperationsOversee implementation and use of assistive and accessible technologies to support student success.Manage and optimize the institution’s accommodation management system for documentation, accommodations, and testing processes.Collaborate with campus partners to ensure compliance with digital accessibility standards and accessible online learning environments.Identify and implement tools and practices to enhance accessibility across campus systems and services.Supervision, Operations & Fiscal ManagementRecruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate professional staff and student employees.Foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture.Manage departmental budget and allocate resources effectively, including services related to assistive technologies, alternative formats, and testing.Assessment, Data & ReportingOversee data collection, assessment, and reporting related to student utilization, retention, and service effectiveness.Analyze trends and outcomes to inform program improvements and institutional decision-making.Stay current on national trends, research, and best practices in disability services.Other DutiesPerform other related duties as assigned in support of divisional and institutional priorities.QualificationsRequiredMaster’s degree in higher education, counseling, rehabilitation, disability studies, psychology, or a related field.Minimum of 5 years of progressive professional experience in disability services or a related field, with experience in higher education strongly preferred.Minimum of 3 years of experience supervising professional staff.Demonstrated expertise interpreting documentation and determining reasonable accommodations using an individualized process.Comprehensive knowledge of ADA, Section 504, and related legal frameworks.Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrated commitment to student success and effective student support services.PreferredExperience leading or managing a disability/accessibility services office.Experience with accommodation management systems.Knowledge of digital accessibility standards and online learning environments.Familiarity with assistive technologies and accessibility tools.Experience with data analysis, assessment, and institutional reporting.Engagement with professional organizations (e.g., AHEAD).Doctorate (Ph.D. or compliance with the New Jersey Wage Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $98,000.00 - $133,933.33. This range represents the University’s good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting. Stevens Institute of Technology determines compensation based on factors including the position’s scope and responsibilities, the candidate’s experience, education, skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational considerations. The final salary will be set considering departmental budget, qualifications, and relevant credentials. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes additional forms of compensation, such as incentives, stipends, or other applicable pay components.
