Overview Get to know our CICU. Our mission in the ICU is to provide healing, comfort and support to our patients and their families in times of critical need. This support is provided through two specialized ICUs: our 43 bed Pediatric ICU (PICU) and 24 bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). Our nursing staff can cross-train for both units. Our CICU sees approximately 1,000 admissions annually, with over 400 of those children receiving complex congenital heart surgery. Our nurses are innovators and leaders who are helping improve care and are changing how pediatric nursing is practiced here and around the world. Our commitment to education and training has led to Children\'s Mercy having more advanced practice, specialty certified and BSN-prepared nurses than any other hospital in the region. Here, nurses are leaders in quality improvement initiatives and research studies that are changing care and transforming lives. The CICU supports several RN involvement initiatives including Quality Improvement, research, and leadership development. The CICU offers many specialty training and growth opportunities including ECMO, CRRT, ventricular assist devices, pre- and postoperative heart transplantation care and central line guidance. Our CICU team consists of: Cardiac Intensivists, Fellows and APRNs; Cardiac Surgery; Cardiology, Electrophysiology, Heart Failure Cardiology and Psychology; CICU Nursing Leadership Team: Nursing Department Directors, Quality Improvement Coordinator, Education Coordinators, Core Charge RNs; Bedside RNs; Resource/Code RNs; Blood Stream Infection Specialist; Clinical Nurse Specialist; Dedicated Respiratory Therapists and Pharmacists; Care Assistant/Nurse Technicians/Secretaries. Multidisciplinary care teams frequently consulted: Hepatology, Nephrology, Pulmonology, Hematology, Neurology, Interventional radiology. Top conditions seen/treated each year in the CICU include complex congenital heart disease surgeries, HLHS, cardiomyopathy, advanced heart failure, ASD/VSD, Coarctation, Tetralogy of Fallot, Transposition of the Great Arteries, AV Canal, Cardiac Transplantation and Cardiac Arrhythmias. Services include ECMO, CRRT, external/internal pacing, Apheresis and Ventricular Assist Devices (Berlin Heart, HeartMate 3, Pedimag/Centrimag). Responsibilities Utilizes the nursing process to develop and implement a safe, high quality, comprehensive, and age-appropriate plan of care for the critically ill patient and family that promotes optimal patient outcomes. Meets the educational and informational needs of the critically ill patient and family and advocates for their needs. Maintains an environment that is safe, comfortable, efficient, and family centered. Utilizes current research and evidence for practice to expand personal professional knowledge, enhance role performance, and improve nursing care quality for critically ill patients. Qualifications Associate\'s Degree (ADN) required. Some employees hired before a specified date may be grandfathered for direct care; on-the-job training may be available. Bachelor\'s Degree preferred for all nurses hired after a specified date; nurses hired after this date without a BSN must complete their degree within 5 years of hire. One of the following: Licensed RN - MO (Missouri) or RN Multistate License Missouri required upon hire; or Licensed RN - KS (Kansas) or RN Multistate License Kansas required upon hire; RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO. Life Support Certifications required upon hire (refer to policy). Specialty Certification relevant to unit\'s patient population preferred; CCRN preferred. Starting Pay The pay range for this job begins at $34.43/hr, with offers determined based on education and experience.
