Working under the direction of the Project Controls Director, this role integrates cost, schedule, forecasting, risk, change, energy performance, and reporting information to help project leadership make informed decisions and achieve successful project outcomes. This is a hands-on role embedded within the project team. The Senior Project Controls Specialist independently performs complex project controls work, identifies emerging issues, develops actionable insights, and supports corrective and recovery actions. The position may lead defined workstreams and provide technical guidance or mentoring to less experienced project controls personnel.The Senior Project Controls Specialist is expected to demonstrate ownership, sound judgment, commercial awareness, and the ability to challenge assumptions constructively while consistently applying enterprise Project Controls standards and methodologies.ResponsibilitiesSpecific responsibilities include:Project Leadership, Team Integration, and Project SetupServes as an active member of assigned project teams, providing timely, objective project controls information that supports financial, schedule, and execution decisions. Works closely with Project Management, Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Pre-Construction, Finance, and other stakeholders to align scope, schedule, cost, risk, resources, and execution priorities. Supports project setup and mobilization, including the work breakdown structure, coding structures, baseline controls, responsibility assignments, reporting cadence, and Project Controls execution requirements. Independently identifies emerging performance issues, evaluates root causes, and recommends corrective or recovery actions to project leadership and the Project Controls Director. Builds effective working relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders while representing the Company professionally. Cost Management, Financial Performance, and ForecastingPerforms and coordinates project cost management activities, including budgeting, commitment tracking, cost control, accruals, productivity analysis, cash flow, cost trending, variance analysis, and Estimate-at-Completion development. Leads preparation and analysis of assigned project forecasts and reforecasts, ensuring assumptions, risks, opportunities, and performance drivers are documented, supported, and communicated. Analyzes actual and forecast performance to identify changes in project trajectory and provides actionable insights that support margin protection and informed decision-making. Works with Project Management, Finance, and Operations to reconcile project controls information with financial reporting and resolve material variances. Maintains accurate, timely, and defensible project cost and forecast data in accordance with enterprise standards. Schedule ManagementDevelops, maintains, updates, and analyzes project schedules, including logic, critical path, milestones, resource loading, progress, and forecast completion dates. Facilitates schedule reviews with project stakeholders, pressure-tests assumptions, and identifies threats to key milestones and contractual dates. Develops look-ahead schedules, schedule narratives, recovery scenarios, and other schedule views required to support execution. Ensures assigned schedules comply with enterprise and contractual requirements and provide reliable information for decision-making. Risk ManagementFacilitates identification, assessment, quantification, documentation, and monitoring of project cost, schedule, resource, and execution risks and opportunities. Maintains project risk and opportunity registers with clear exposure, ownership, mitigation actions, due dates, and potential impacts. Supports deterministic and probabilistic risk analysis as appropriate to project needs and enterprise requirements. Monitors mitigation and contingency actions and escalates material changes in project exposure. Change ManagementImplements and administers the project change management process so that trends, scope changes, claims, and potential impacts are identified, evaluated, documented, approved, and incorporated into cost, schedule, and forecast. Develops or supports change estimates, pricing, schedule impact analyses, contract amendments, back charges, and supporting documentation. Maintains accurate change logs and provides visibility into pending, approved, rejected, and realized changes. Partners with project and commercial stakeholders to improve the timeliness and quality of change identification and resolution. Energy ManagementIncorporates energy production, savings, performance commitments, and related economics into applicable project controls processes. Works with project and technical leaders to track performance commitments, identify variances, and support corrective actions that protect contractual and economic outcomes. Planning & Project SetupSupports execution planning and project startup activities, including coordination with Pre-Construction, Estimating, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Project Management. Contributes to development of the baseline schedule, engineering packages, work breakdown structure, preliminary time-phased spend, controls procedures, and Project Execution Plan. May support proposals, constructability planning, feasibility studies, and project close-out reporting. Interface with Operational FinanceSupports revenue recognition, margin, billing, cash, reforecasting, accruals, and month-end alignment between project controls information and the financial ledger. Investigates discrepancies and supports timely resolution of differences among project forecasts, operational expectations, and financial reporting. Provides the Project Controls Director with clear information on material financial trends, risks, and opportunities. Reporting & Performance AnalyticsDevelops, analyzes, and presents accurate and timely Project Controls reports, dashboards, KPIs, cost curves, progress information, and management analyses for assigned projects. Conducts trend, variance, productivity, and performance analysis to anticipate issues and recommend actions. Prepares and presents project controls information for weekly, monthly, quarterly, client, and internal project reviews. Ensures reporting is decision-oriented, traceable to source data, and aligned with enterprise standards. Team Leadership, Culture and Talent DevelopmentProvides technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to project controls specialists, schedulers, cost engineers, and analysts as assigned. May coordinate day-to-day work and quality reviews for project controls personnel on assigned projects without assuming formal manager accountability. Models an ownership-driven culture in which Project Controls personnel proactively identify risk, challenge assumptions, and contribute to project outcomes. Shares knowledge, supports onboarding and development, and contributes to a collaborative project controls community. Standards, Tools, and Continuous Improvement Applies and champions enterprise Project Controls standards, procedures, tools, systems, and methodologies on assigned projects. Monitors data quality and process compliance, identifies gaps, and recommends practical improvements to the Project Controls Director. Supports continuous improvement through technology, automation, analytics, lessons learned, and proven Project Controls practices. Performs other project controls duties and supports special initiatives as assigned. QualificationsRequired Education, Experience, and Qualifications4 year degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, business, finance, or a related field or 4 to 8 years of experience in project controls or project management, preferably in building construction, healthcare, or EPC.Demonstrated knowledge of scheduling, cost engineering, subcontract coordination, and general project administration.Familiarity reading drawings and specifications.Proficient in common business tools such as P6 and Microsoft Office applications. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
