SCHOOL BASED SOCIAL WORKER

JOB SUMMARY :


The School-Based Social Worker serves as a member of the district's Behavioral Health team, providing comprehensive school-based mental health services that promote student's social, emotional, behavioral, and academic success. The School-Based Social Worker partners with students, families, educators, and community providers to identify barriers to learning, deliver evidence-based interventions, strengthen protective factors, and connect students with appropriate supports. Through Prevention, early intervention, crisis response, consultation, and care coordination, the School-Based Social Worker helps foster safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments where all students can thrive.


QUALIFICATIONS :

Knowledge, Skills, A bilities:

Knowledge of : school-based mental health practices, child and adolescent development, behavioral health interventions, crisis response, trauma-informed care, social-emotional learning, evidence-based practices, special education and educational systems, community resources, care coordination, and strategies that promote safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments for all students.


Abilities: Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive school social work responsibilities, including conducting assessments, implementing interventions, providing consultation, and coordinating referrals based on the needs of students and families. Ability to effectively work with students who may exhibit aggressive or assaultive behaviors, as required by specific job assignments. Willingness and ability to travel frequently between schools and community agencies to support student services.


Experience: Experience with school social work or previous work experience in child and family-related service fields.

Education: Master of Social Work required.

Certification Required: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Clinical Social Work Associate (CSWA), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) School Social Work License, or willing to pursue within 6 months.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Provide individual, group, and family counseling utilizing evidence-based practices.
2. Conduct social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health assessments to identify student needs and guide intervention planning.
3. Develop, implement, and monitor individualized intervention and treatment plans.
4. Support students in developing coping skills, emotional regulation, problem-solving, conflict resolution, healthy relationships, and resilience.
5. Deliver short-term therapeutic interventions and coordinate referrals for ongoing services, when appropriate.
6. Respond to behavioral health crises and provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, suicide risk assessment, safety planning, and stabilization.
7. Participate in multidisciplinary crisis response teams and assist with post-crisis recovery and re-entry planning.
8. Collaborate with administrators, families, and community agencies to ensure student safety and continuity of care.
9. Consult with teachers, administrators, specialists, and support staff regarding student mental health, behavior, attendance, and social-emotional needs.
10. Assist staff in implementing practices that promote positive student outcomes.
11. Participate in the Student Success Team (SST), Section 504, and Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings to support comprehensive planning for students, when appropriate.
12. Collaborate with the School-Based Health Center (SBHC), psychologists, counselors, nurses, and community behavioral health providers to coordinate services.
13. Build collaborative partnerships with families to support student success across home, school, and community settings.
14. Connect families with community resources, behavioral health providers, healthcare, housing, food security, and other social services.
15. Facilitate communication between schools, families, and community agencies while maintaining confidentiality.
16. Advocate for equitable access to services that support student well-being and educational success.
17. Promote positive school climate through prevention and early intervention programming.
18. Support implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for behavioral health and social-emotional learning.
19. Provide professional learning and coaching to staff regarding trauma-informed practices, mental health awareness, behavior support, and student engagement.
20. Assist in developing school-wide strategies that improve student connectedness, attendance, engagement, and well-being.
21. Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records in accordance with district policies, professional licensing requirements, and applicable federal and state laws.
22. Complete documentation necessary for service coordination, Medicaid billing (when applicable), and data collection.
23. Maintain professional licensure and participate in ongoing professional development.
24. Adhere to ethical standards established by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the Oregon Board of Licensed Social Workers.
25. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS :

Language Skills : Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language. Ability to write memos and correspondence in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations.

Mathematical Skills : Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written or oral instructions in English. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills and Abilities : Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents and community.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time.

Works in an office environment. Able to use a telephone, operate a computer, and use other office equipment. Ability to drive to other program sites and meetings.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT :


Salary and work year in accordance with negotiated agreement between licensed teachers and the district.

CLASSIFICATION:


Full time, probationary position, at multiple locations.

CALENDAR/SALARY/BENEFITS:


8 hours per day; 190 days starting August 24, 2026. Position includes 2 days for New Teacher In-Service prior to start date.

Salary range based on prior experience, $52,339 - $107,622 per the NEA Salary Schedule.
