Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic (NJ) | Port Reading, NJ Island Transportation operates 30+ units from each of its four locations, delivering petroleum products throughout the Tri‑State area. All four locations are currently hiring qualified mechanics. Job Overview We are seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team. The role involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and tank trailers. This hands‑on position requires strong technical knowledge and excellent problem‑solving skills. Pay: $34.00 per hour. Certified air brake technicians can earn an additional $1.50 per hour. You must bring your own tools. Prior diesel experience preferred but not required. Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance on diesel engines, including oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks. Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues in diesel engines and vehicles. Conduct thorough inspections of diesel engines to identify potential issues. Use diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot engine problems. Repair or replace faulty components such as fuel injectors, alternators, and starters. Perform air brake system repairs and maintenance. Conduct vehicle inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Keep accurate records of all repairs and maintenance performed. Skills & Qualifications Strong knowledge of diagnostics and repair techniques. Proficiency in soldering and welding. Experience with air brake systems. Familiarity with vehicle maintenance procedures. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Proven experience as a diesel mechanic or service technician preferred.
