Deli Account Manager

Overview

We are a family-owned, local business based in Des Moines, established in 1983, specializing in serving perishable food manufacturers within grocery stores. As a Deli Supervisor, you will play a key role in managing and representing major food manufacturing brands, such as Hormel, at grocery store chains like Hy-Vee and Fareway. This position involves overseeing sales operations on behalf of food manufacturers, supervising a team of approximately 10 sales associates, and ensuring effective communication and management of client relationships. This role is not store-based but focuses on broker activities, client engagement, and team leadership to drive product sales and brand presence. Salary can be negotiated based on prior experience and knowledge.

Duties

• Supervise and lead a sales team of around 10 individuals, providing guidance and support to meet sales objectives.
• Communicate effectively with clients and team members to ensure alignment on sales strategies and goals.
• Train team members on product knowledge, sales techniques, and customer service standards to enhance team performance.
• Develop and implement strategies to promote products
• Coordinate with manufacturing partners to ensure proper product placement, merchandising, and compliance with branding standards.
• Monitor sales activities, analyze performance metrics, and prepare reports for management review.

Requirements

• Direct experience in the deli and or meat department of grocery stores or other related experiences with a broker, or food manufacturer
• Understanding trade management and experience with ad planners highly preferred
• Strong Excel computer skills to track, and manage the sales team, items, ACV reports, etc.
• Must be willing to work and/or commute to our office in Urbandale multiple times a week, this schedule is negotiable depending on the circumstances but highly preferred to have someone in the office min. four days a week
• Need someone who is highly self motivated and able to work and be affective independent of what else may be going on in the office
• Knowledge of the grocery retail industry
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in managing multiple accounts and tasks.
• Professional demeanor with excellent interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with clients and team members.
