Heavy Duty Mechanic-Rural ARFF-Advanced Journey PCN 25-0971

Overview State Equipment Fleet (SEF) of the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is recruiting a Heavy Duty Mechanic – Rural ARFF – Advanced Journey. This position supports maintenance and repair of heavy equipment for highway construction, secondary roads and rural airports, including motor graders, loaders, dump trucks, roller compactors, sand spreaders, backhoes, and tractor‑trailer combinations. Responsibilities Professionally maintain heavy equipment associated with the construction and maintenance of highways, secondary roads and rural airports. Diagnose, repair and maintain a wide variety of heavy trucks and equipment, including computerized diagnostics and electronic and mechanical systems. Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems through a variety of techniques and methods. Perform routine and specialized repair and maintenance in a shop or remote setting. Move or operate equipment for service and correctly diagnose not specified problems. Qualifications Knowledge of machines and tools, including design, use, repair and maintenance. Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts and systems. Flexibility and rapid adaptation to new information or changing conditions. Self‑management with initiative and minimal supervision. Must possess a Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL). Proficient at operating heavy equipment. Knowledge of firearm usage and ammunition handling (ARFF). Special Requirements Class A CDL required. Steel‑toed boots or approved protection against dropped or fallen objects. ETT 40‑hour course and ARFF training, including 40‑hour course, medical evaluation and fit test for self‑contained breathing apparatus. Knowledge and ability to perform Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) duties in support of Part 139. Training in Managing Wildlife Hazards at Airports (provided after hire).
