Job Description

The Night Shift Fitter/Welder lays out, positions, aligns, and fits fabricated metal parts in preparation for welding, using appropriate tools, fixtures, and equipment. This role sets up and operates MIG and related welding processes to perform high-quality welds, including multi-pass and full-penetration welds, on various metals and structures. The position requires strong blueprint reading skills, precise fabrication abilities, and the capability to repair and rework existing products in a manufacturing environment during night shift hours.

Responsibilities

• Lay out, position, align, and fit together fabricated metal parts using tools, fixtures, and measuring devices to prepare assemblies for welding.
• Set up and operate welding equipment, including MIG and metal core processes, to join metal parts according to specifications.
• Perform multi-pass and full-penetration welds on stainless steel, structural steel, and other metals as required.
• Read and interpret blueprints, layouts, schematics, work orders, and sketches to understand required layouts, dimensions, and assembly details.
• Cut and prepare parts for fabrication, including using cutting torches and related fabrication equipment when needed.
• Dismantle, straighten, reshape, and reassemble parts to repair or modify existing products and structures.
• Follow all safety rules, procedures, and best practices while working with welding and fabrication equipment.
• Use measuring tools, including tape measures, to verify dimensions and ensure accuracy of fits and welds.
• Apply knowledge of weld symbols and basic math to plan and execute welds correctly.
• Participate in and successfully complete weld tests, including written assessments on tape measure reading, weld symbols, and math skills, as well as physical weld tests on beveled plates in the 1G position using MIG and metal core.
• Work scheduled night shift hours from Monday through Thursday, with additional work on Friday and some Saturdays as needed to meet production requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and handle tools, equipment, and materials responsibly in a manufacturing setting.

Essential Skills

• 3–5 years of welding experience preferred, with demonstrated proficiency in production or manufacturing environments.
• Strong MIG welding experience, including multi-pass and full-penetration welds.
• Flux core welding experience on various metals and structures.
• Metal core welding experience, including ability to pass a physical weld test on a 1-inch beveled plate in the 1G position.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, layouts, schematics, work orders, and weld symbols accurately.
• Proficiency in using tape measures and performing basic math to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Experience working with stainless steel and structural steel components.
• Ability to follow all safety rules, procedures, and best practices in a manufacturing and welding environment.
• Capability to use fabrication tools and equipment, including cutting torches, for cutting and preparing parts.
• Physical ability to handle welding and fitting tasks, including positioning, aligning, and assembling metal components.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in a fabrication or structural steel shop environment.
• Experience in repair work, including dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling metal parts.
• Comfort working on night shifts and adapting to extended hours on Fridays and some Saturdays when production demands increase.
• Strong attention to detail and quality in weld appearance, penetration, and structural integrity.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

Work Environment

This role operates in a manufacturing setting with a focus on metal fabrication and welding. You will work primarily with stainless steel and structural steel using MIG, flux core, and metal core welding processes, as well as fabrication tools such as cutting torches. The schedule runs Monday through Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., with additional work on Friday and some Saturdays based on production needs. The environment emphasizes safety, proper use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to established procedures while working around welding equipment, cutting tools, and heavy materials in a shop setting.

Don't count yourself out if you don't have 3–5 years of experience.

Candidates with 6+ months of hands-on welding, fitting, fabrication, or manufacturing experience are encouraged to apply. If you can read a tape measure, understand basic blueprints, and have MIG/Flux-Core welding experience, this could be an excellent opportunity to advance your welding career.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
