Duties

Help

As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, WG-5801-10, you will:

• Troubleshoot, perform maintenance, and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment
• Troubleshoot equipment and diagnose the cause of mechanical failures
• Remove and disassemble engines
• Independently perform repairs and maintenance functions in remote locations
• Conduct readiness and inspections on vehicles
• Assist in the maintenance of production reports and recommendations
• Instruct operator/crew in the maintenance of equipment and provides technical advice and assistance to supported units when requested.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS :

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement . This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Additional Employment Requirements:

• Participation in direct deposit is mandatory
• May be required to successfully complete a probationary period
• Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation

  PRE-PLACEMENT PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :A pre-placement physical will be required for anyone selected for this position. Placement into the position will not be made until results are received

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE :

Experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, preventative maintenance, use of common tools, and equipment.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

Must have at least 18 months of specialized experience or training in the following areas:

• Diagnosing, repairing, and modifying complex vehicles
• Knowledge of diagnostic equipment
• Solving complex maintenance and repair problems
• Evaluating work performed on vehicles, equipment, and systems
