Respiratory Therapist

Coordinates and provides quality respiratory care services.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Coordinating and performing clinical respiratory services provided to customers.
• Observing, assessing, and monitoring signs and symptoms, reactions, general behavior, and general physical response of individuals to respiratory care services.
• Developing, implementing, and modifying respiratory care treatment plans based on assessed abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system, respiratory care protocols, clinical pathways, referrals, and written, verbal, or telecommunicated orders of a physician.
• Making recommendations to physicians for quality of care of patients.
• Application, operation, and management of mechanical ventilator support and other means of life support; and the initiation of emergency procedures under the rules established by the board.
• Reading and interpreting insurance documents, medical records, and written orders.
• Charting in detail, both written and in applicable database, ongoing patient care.
• Using specialized and high tech respiratory equipment.
• Providing appropriate deliveries, set-up, and instruction to clinical respiratory patients.
• Providing plan of service/plan of treatment services to evaluate, assess, and meet the customer's needs, goals, and requirements and/or appropriateness of service/therapy.
• Marketing and promoting the clinical respiratory services of the company to the referral sources and the health care community.
• Coordinating and performing quality assurance and oxygen concentrator maintenance service as described in the maintenance reference manuals.
• Coordinating and performing quality assurance and maintenance services on respiratory therapy items as described in the maintenance reference manuals.
• Delivering and instructing customers and/or caregivers on the proper and safe use of oxygen concentrators, liquid oxygen system, cylinder oxygen system, and respiratory items.
• Instructing customers and/or caregivers on infection control procedures and compliance with internal and external regulations.
• Coordinating and/or completing all equipment maintenance management records as required by the organization.
• Coordinating and assisting with obtaining all prescriptions and/or Certificate of Medical Necessity forms required for internal and external policies and regulations and for billing to insurance companies. Conducting or arranging in-service for staff relating to respiratory equipment services.
• Obtaining, reviewing, and communicating with the applicable Customer Service Representative, physician, and/or facility any needed customer documentation and/or insurance information as required in order to qualify the patient for respiratory equipment.
• Available for 24 hours on-call assignments, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• All clinical respiratory services will be administered in accordance with organization's policies and job descriptions, federal, state, and local laws, and established regulatory guidelines as dictated by the State Respiratory Care Board.
• Other duties as requested by Management.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED). A medical related degree is preferred.
• One year of durable medical equipment, hospital, or other relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.
• Must be registered or certified as a licensed respiratory therapist.
• Must have a valid driver's license and insurance with a good driving record. Must be able to pass a background check.

Language Skills:

English (written, verbal)

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using a calculator.

Analytical & Problem Solving Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Registered or Certified Respiratory Therapist

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Will be required to drive in all four seasons. All employees are required to work in a safe manner.

Training:

Orientation and selected courses must be completed in the designated time frame. Must complete annual vent training and other competencies as required by management.
