Position Title: Assistant Principal of Student Success

FTE: 1.0
Reports To: Principal
Work Year: 11-month, Full Time

Position Summary

The Assistant Principal of Student Success serves as a leader responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of systems that support student academic, behavioral, and social-emotional success.

This position provides leadership for the school's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), student behavior, attendance, and restorative practices, ensuring alignment with district goals and compliance with applicable laws, policies, and regulations.

The Assistant Principal works collaboratively with administration, staff, students, and families to promote a safe, equitable, and supportive learning environment that maximizes student outcomes.

In a shared leadership model, the Assistant Principal of Student Success also supports schoolwide systems related to student management and discipline, ensuring consistency and responsiveness across the building.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Leadership of Student Support Systems (Shared Responsibility)

• Provide leadership for the implementation and continuous improvement of MTSS across behavioral, and social-emotional domains
• Coordinate and monitor tiered interventions and supports to ensure effectiveness and fidelity of implementation
• Utilize multiple sources of data to identify student needs, monitor progress, and inform decision-making
• Collaborate with the principal and leadership team in school improvement planning

2. Student Behavior and Restorative Practices

• Administer and enforce the student code of conduct in accordance with district policies and state law
• Lead the implementation of restorative practices and proactive behavior support systems
• Oversee disciplinary processes, ensuring consistency, equity, and appropriate documentation
• Facilitate student conferences, restorative meetings, and re-entry processes as appropriate

3. Attendance Oversight

• Oversee schoolwide attendance procedures, including monitoring, intervention, and reporting
• Ensure compliance with state attendance laws and district policies
• Collaborate with staff and families to address barriers to attendance and improve student engagement

4. Instructional Support and Staff Collaboration

• Support staff in the development and implementation of intervention plans for students
• Collaborate with instructional coaches, student services personnel, and teachers to align supports
• Provide guidance to staff regarding best practices in behavior management, SEL, and student engagement
• Participate in the supervision and evaluation of certified and non-certified staff, as assigned

5. Communication and Family Engagement

• Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and staff regarding student progress, behavior, and attendance
• Support the development of positive school-family relationships
• Participate in meetings involving student support, discipline, and intervention planning

6. School Operations and Supervision

• Assist in the daily operation of the school, including supervision of students and staff
• Provide supervision during unstructured times (arrival, dismissal, lunch, passing periods, and school events)
• Maintain accurate records related to student discipline, attendance, and interventions
• Support implementation of school safety procedures and crisis response protocols

7. Student Management and Discipline (Shared Responsibility)

• Support the implementation and enforcement of the student code of conduct in accordance with district policies and state law
• Collaborate with the Principal and Assistant Principal of Student Success to ensure consistent and equitable discipline practices
• Assist in the supervision of students and response to behavioral incidents, as needed
• Participate in student conferences, problem-solving meetings, and re-entry processes
• Contribute to maintaining a safe, orderly, and supportive school environment

8. Professional Responsibilities

• Maintain current knowledge of best practices in MTSS, SEL, restorative practices, and student management
• Participate in professional learning and administrative meetings
• Contribute to the revision and implementation of school and district policies, procedures, and handbooks

9. Section 504 Coordination and Student Support (Shared Responsibility)

• Support implementation and monitoring of Section 504 plans to ensure students receive appropriate accommodations
• Collaborate with teachers, social workers, and families to ensure consistent and effective delivery of supports
• Participate in Section 504 meetings, plan development, and periodic reviews
• Address concerns related to plan implementation and help resolve barriers to student access and success
• Coordinate testing schedules to ensure application of assessment accommodations

10. Other Duties

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee

Qualifications

• Illinois Professional Educator License with General Administrative Endorsement
• Master's Degree in Educational Leadership or related field
• Minimum of five (5) years of successful educational experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of MTSS, student behavior systems, and data-informed decision-making
• Experience in leadership, coaching, or student services preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, Illinois School Code, and district policies
• Ability to analyze and interpret student data to inform decisions
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and families
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and respond effectively to emergent situations
